Octagonal chalk allows you to get more fingers on the cube for ease of chalking.
It is twice as easy to chalk when you can get 8-fingers in the octagon at one time.
Traditional cube chalk limits your chalkability to one hand, 4-fingers, which is hard for some people to coordinate.
I guess you could chalk with two fingers on each hand with a traditional cube, but that would be stupid>>![]()
Wouldn't we all? if he gets time to film it he's a genius, hands are pretty tied up I reckon.Could you post up a video to explain this. I would love to see exactly what you are talking about:thumbup:

That could possibly be the future of chalking right there!I used to play with some people that would put the cue on the floor at a 60 degree angle, grab the chalk and tip with one hand, place their foot on the butt plate of the cue, move their foot back and forth to make the cue "roll" on the floor and chalk without movement in the hand. He could do it like this. Hope that made sense.
It had to be octagonal or the name 1080 wouldn't work.
1080 degrees is the sum of all internal angles in an octagon.

I'm speaking about the Predator 1080 Pure. Does anyone know why Predator have made it octagonal? If I didn't know better I would say its Blue Diamond, but not square. Colour, texture and feel are almost identical. Doesn't leave a mess on the CB as much as BD though.
Perhaps the makers of Triangle chalk will realise a triangular "cube" could be the future.
Yeah I get almost no chalk spots on my measles CB. Even when I hammer the break I get a faint spot, with a few specs of chalk around the spot. Blue Diamond covered my CB every 2 or 3 racks. If I go 6 or so racks without wiping the CB then wiping alone won't get the chalk spots off, I'd have to use water. No such problem with Predator. It is quite dry here compared to some places in the US so that has a part to play. I'm going to try baking one in the oven to dry it out more. Works with Masters and Blue Diamon really well, and lessens the mess it leaves on the cloth, hands and CB.Interesting you found less mess on the CB than Blue Diamond. I like the chalk, however, I found just the opposite (Pred leaves much more chalk on the CB than Blue Diamond) especially on the Aramith Measles.

Triangle shaped chalk already exists.
I do the same with traditional cubes and actually you will find out that with octagonal Predator you have two Xs instead of one. And they overlap so that you actually have a neat round-shaped divot inside the piece of chalk. Octagon is easier to hold with fingers, like mentioned, and it rolls farther under the table if dropped (like mentioned before in previous Predator chalk threads:winkI can't understand why it isn't a cube. I chalk towards the corners of a cube of chalk which leaves a nice 'X' shape that fits my tip perfectly and doesn't make as much mess as if I rubbed it randomly in any direction
Cus they can...Octagonal chalk... Why?
