Oddball LD Shaft of yester-year....the YAK

This might be a fun thread, or it might not be a thread at all because no one knows what I'm talking about.

Does anyone remember the YAK XD shafts? When I played in Albuquerque over 8 years ago, there were a few folks that were playing with them. They were decent players, and one was VERY good, I think he dabbled in pro stuff occasionally.

I'd had a predator 314, and tried the McDermott I-shaft for a week, so I was used to LD shafts...

Well, I shot with a guys YAK and I actually liked it pretty good, so I ended up with 2 of them, and have pretty much been playing with them since then. Granted I don't play near as much or quite as well as I used to, I think I'm going to dust off my cues and play a bit more.

All internet searches come up as old dead links, or bashing them. The guy behind them was maybe a little controversial and didn't seem to respond well to criticism.

They are crude, not very smooth and kind of look like whittled down driftwood.

Despite my younger days...I'm well aligned with the thinking "Its not the arrow, its the indian", and while I have preferences, I seldom blame equipment, or lack of it, for my performance.

Anyone else familiar with these things?

I have one of the first cues he made / a conversion with his ld shaft. He actually is listed in the 3rd edition of the blue book . At least one pro either played with his shafts or tried them. When he sent me my cue he inadvertently packed 2 extra shafts with it. I thought I had a home run, soon however he called ,explained what had happened and asked me to forward the shafts to the player that was expecting them. As crazy as it sounds I did that. I can't imagine what I was thinking about. The cue actually plays nicely and his version of the ld shaft is as good as any I have hit with and that includes most that were available back then.
