Of all celebrities that played pool characters in movies

Gleason and Newman were both taught by Mosconi so.

Newman has his bridge ready and cue set then just lands on table and fires.
extremely fast for eddie

look for subtle flares in their shooting

Compared to Sigel teaching Cruise.

The earlier look much better on the table.

Yes- Newman had to be taught by Mosconi how to look like a pool player. But doubt if he had to teach much to Gleason. Gleason hustled pool while going through school and then worked in a pool hall for awhile. He was an accomplished player before playing Fats in The Hustler.

Paul Newman won an oscar for TCOM as a supporting actor and he was the star of the best pool movie ever, 25 years apart nonetheless. Having Scorsese as a director surely helped but winning an oscar in a pool movie is a great accomplishment. 100 years from now or 1000 years from now Newman's films will still be watched.

You trying to say Newman and Gleason had Mosconi on set and Gleason knew more than Mosconi.

I'd imagine Mosconi would still have somethings to show Gleason

itd still be fun to shoot around with Mosconi especially if they just making a movie, or watch Mosconi shoot

My vote- JACKIE GLEASON. There were two baseball players from many years ago who were also part time pool hustlers in real life- the ex Angels pitcher Bo Belinsky and the ex player/ manager Leo Durocher.

Bo Belinsky...a name from the distant past. 1st Angels pitcher to have a no hitter.
His other claim to fame was being briefly married to a lady born in my small home town of Lebanon, Oregon...she born in 1947 As Janet Canoy...later to gain fame as Jo Collins,
1964 Playmate of the year. I knew her brother...he got really tired of being asked questions about his sister.

But I digressed. Really just wanted to cast another vote for Jackie Gleason...

As a player, sometimes you have to use the house cue.

The decision to roll the cue on the table, was that the technical advisor or the actress.

Dramatic departure from other pool films. The cue stick for her doesn't matter.

Argue the merits of the decision, I just like seeing a house cue tested and used.

Stalking Horse... that sounds wrong, so very very very wrong

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrOxh2yn_lQ

Not going to suffer through that movie from the beginning, I think it was used wrong here anyway. On the track, a stalking horse sets the pace, generally too fast. Then the horse being bet on comes from behind after other horses slow in the stretch.

In pool the same thing was sometimes done. A player and his "backer" come into a strange room. The backer usually ends up in action. Surprise! The backer is a better player than the "player"! They learned what they needed to know with the stalking horse, then the real player stepped in. Two youngsters came in Buffalo's years back and were doing the player/backer thing. Both the same age, I didn't go for it. I played the backer awhile but we played cheap. If he had any speed he never showed it.

I didnt finish the movie

But Jenn B might be the only person on film to demonstrate that high bridge for a jump shot in a movie.

Its a great movie I could imagine young women, watching this movie to help balance out the reality of personalities in the pool room.

The movie is funny and with a lot of heart. I think its a coming of age movie for young women changing their future.

its just cheesy enough to be funny be realistic

A++

Great display for the women, now if they can get at the rulebook and governing guidelines.
