What percent of the time do the pros make a ball on an 8-Ball break?
Has anyone see any stats on this from the IPT or Accu-Stats?

What about an A or B player?

Thanks,
JW

IPT if I remember is break within the box. So any 8 ball would be a fluke. Some league and APA rules I believe you win when it drops so you see people (like me) going for it. Usually breaking from the side aiming for the side of the rack. In this case the odds go way up if you know what you're doing, and you get a good rack.

I still remember the first time I dropped one on the break. I was like 11-12 and I didn't know a thing about the game. When it fell (which I never even paid attention) I was told by my dad I won. I never feel good about the 8 dropping when I wasn't going for it, I guess I am just weird that way.

I think it depends on how you break. Hitting the head ball may be a less % than hitting the second ball. JMO.

In our 8-Ball tournament this past winter the 8 went in one time over the course of 29 weeks. We play double elimination with anywhere between 10 and 20 players. That's a lot of games to only have the 8 drop once on the break. We played on a 8 foot table as well.

The guy who dropped the 8 on the break won $120 for doing it, we collect $.50 per player per week just for this purpose.

8 ball?

The original poster never mentioned the eight ball dropping... only the second poster did. He only wanted to know the percentage of times that any ball falls on a break by a pro.
