ok, I GOTTA ask

I play with all of mine....

I have 11 of them fellers and I play with all of them time to time. Obviously the Rambow gets very limited play.

I have bought 3 cues since getting my Tad, but I just play with the "new" one a few hits then go back to ole gal Tad. It isnt the best playing cue I have but it is comfortable for me.

The deal with me is to limit to 11 cues, so for me to get another cue I have to get rid of one of my babies. I always try to upgrade, upgrade. As some of friends have mentioned, you really have to want the new cue to require you to get rid of one.

Any thoughts?

I love high dollar cues like anyone, but I quit buying/selling them about 5 years ago. High dollar meant different things to me over the years. My first Meucci was expensive to me at $125 back in 1987! (man I'm old!). I quit when I picked up 2 beautiful, high dollar cues ($2500) at the SBE and had trouble pulling the trigger when playing with 1 of them. I remember the exact moment I said "this thing cost too much for me to play with".

Now, expensive to me means maybe over $1500. My collection now consists mainly of simple designs by newer cue builders. I do have a few left over from years ago made by close friends, and a few old war horses that will always be kept. I look at cues everyday online, and pull the trigger a couple times a year maybe.

I do have 1 Schon STL17 that is unplayed, so if anyone wants to trade for a Boti, SW, Bushke etc....I'm looking to move up!:D

All kidding aside, I would sell every cue I own to buy a Gus Szamboti to play with.

... I collect books...

Way cooool, I wish I had the money to collect books... they just give me that warm and fuzzy feeling. Kinda weird, huh? The oldest I own is an old journal of the Pilgrims when they were still in Leiden, Netherlands. I bought that for my genealogical research. My books just pile up as I read and it literally pains me to toss them out no matter how poor a book it was, but all those paperbacks really are worthless.

As to the original premise, I have 14 (I think) cues now from a 2400.00 Skip Weston to a 70.00 Dufferin. I rarely play with the Skip, but not because of it's cost; rather because it isn't the best playing cue I own. If I thought the Skip was the best playing cue I owned, it would be my main playing cue and would take it almost anywhere. I'd buy more cues in heartbeat, but I'm dumping a huge percentage of my pay into my 401K playing catchup and more cues just aren't practical right now.

lol sound like you need a girl freind..Just kidding dude!!!!

Having a girlfriend wouldn't be all that bad. Of course I'd have to spend money on her. That would take away from my beer fund, from books, pool etc. It might be worth it.

It's not weird, I understand. I feel the same way. It is tough to collect 1st editions though. It's very very rare that I can afford the ones I want. Usually I end up collecting off-market prints of books I enjoy. For example, from the now defunct Black Lizard publication.

I have trouble throwing away books too. I read an article about the daughter of a famous publishing mogul. How they (her and the father) enjoy tearing pages out of books to use as markers. It physically hurt me....but that's just me.
