ok, I probably shouldn't, but...

holy crap!! this is a billiards forum, I can't believe someone would post about a cue on eBay that others on the forum may be interested in. trying to save the world, no. posting about something I ran across while looking at auctions...yes. big deal.
My point was that you seem to keep harping on the fact that someone might get a better deal, and god forbid might later resell it for profit. Why is that a bad thing? It's not. Plus it makes a blind assumption that the person who gets a deal wouldn't want to play with the cue, which is apparently of life and death importance to you. They may very well play with the cue with the same love as the person who paid more (thanks to you).

hence my initial apology, which by the way, some wanted to castrate me for.

Don't you get it McNeil, this is larger than one auction. This is larger than even the principle of uncovering sleeper auctions.

This is a response to pathetic, disingenuous smarminess. Attention-seeking douchebaggery concealed as public service.

do you realllly think he was trying to put the auction out there to piss off any of you over-sensitive people? i highly doubt it. he did it to let who ever has any genuine interest in the cue know there's a sleeper auction out there. I agree that he probably didn't think about the fact that it would drive up the price of the auction, but to call the guy a pathetic douchebag is a little strong and shows the stupidity of posters like you. he had good intentions, but simply didn't think it through all the way. give the guy a break.

Well, I for one hope that doesn't happen :grin-square:

The reason you got lynched is because these kinds of threads have come up before and no doubt there is some pent up frustration about it from the members. But, your weak justifications made it worse.

I have no problem with people thinking my justifications were weak; I shouldn't have given them in the first place. It was the listing of others justifications (speaking for me) that got me, and I shouldn't have gotten pulled in. Next time I see something like this I'll post an "Anyone interested in a Frey sneaky PM me". I don't care if the cue sells for $40 or $400, I just wanted to let those looking for this cue to find it (couldn't be found with a FREY seach on eBay). My ego doesn't need stroked, I'm not OUT TO SAVE THE WORLD, etc....though sometimes I can be a douchebag..lol. The response was a little off putting, and other than the Oprah comment I tried to be civil. Sorry for that comment by the way, if it was to you - it was kinda harsh if you knew my views on her :p I won't try to justify it anymore, and will handle this in a less offensive way (to those who were obviously offended) next time. In any case, hope someone likes the cue!!

You're getting crap from the same people that would call you names for telling YOUR friend he's getting hustled. Do these people honestly think nobody else will see the auction?????? How many have posted you have done something out of line? It seems to me that there are plenty of people on AZ alone that look at all the auctions let alone all the other players & dealers out there.
Jason<---has had enough of the crybaby's

just wonderin

How does everybody on here know for certain that the F doesn't stand for fraud.

Hopefully one of the crybaby's buys it, then comes on here with pics whining about it being some peice of crap and another Azer says oh yeah that's a _______ worth about $10. But I didn't want to mess with the guy's sale so I didn't say anything.

Out of curiosity, I requested closeups of the cue to get an idea of it's condition. It's a Frey, but it's pretty beat up (definitely needs a refinish), so it won't be a great deal for anyone if the bidding goes much higher.

I agree with helping out "Bill", but probably with a WTB scenario. Plenty of AZers look on ebay for deals and if John Q. Public doesn't know what to look for, then that's too bad, someone who does will get a deal....well, they would have. I look for deals there all the time and quite frankly would be PISSED if someone outed a sleeper and drove the price up. That's just me, I think people should do their own homework, not steal it from the smart kid and give it to the whole class.

I agree. Ive heard of people misspelling words intentionally to find a steal. If he found a chick, selling her exs set of Ping clubs and she spelled it Pung, would he announce it to the golf site or pick them up for himself?

depends if I wanted them or not. I have found and posted on 4GEA (a golf forum) about an old Scotty Cameron putter (thrown in with a couple no-names), and a few other clubs or sets (whether misspelled, or however hidden) before.....and without all the backlash I might add. If I had wanted the cue to play I wouldn't have posted it, true, but since I didn't, and it wasn't the easiest find, I thought I'd help someone who did want it, find it. oh, and BTW, some do/have intentionally looked for misspelling and the like (including me), but who's to say I didn't pass the deal along once I'd tried it?? I have sold like new Camerons for $50-$100 on numerous occasions (since I too got deals on them), and that's the equivalent of someone selling a like new Schon for $100-$200...see that often? Probably not.
