I'm just a little lazy and i work way to much to bother looking it up. What is the difference between 9 and 10 ball.

I'm no expert. Here's the main difference as far as I know.

10-ball is different because making balls on the break is tougher, due to the rack. Perhaps that isn't accurate, making the 10 on the break is tougher than making the 9 on the snap. And most versions are call pocket, no slop.

I'm sure people far more knowledgeable than I will point out more, but these are the big differences, as I understand it.

I could've done that. Are those the only real differences> what this safety rule i keep hearing about?

Just was messin man....

From the World Pool Billiard Association

9.6 Safety
The shooter, after the break at anytime may call “safety” which permits him to make contact with the
legal object ball without pocketing a ball and end his inning. However, if the shooter pockets the legal
object ball the incoming player has the option to play the shot as left, or

It probably depends on your local tournament if they enforce this or not. I play in one where they don't enforce it.

The answer to your question is too long if you don't accept "10-ball has 10 balls, 9-ball has 9 balls." As with all pool games, the rules are constantly changing depending on whose sanctioning you want to associate with. The current rulebook can be found online. The thousands of posts describing the joys and pitfalls of 10-ball are easily found on this forum's search engine. Please get unlazy.

And "Beat People with a Stick" is the motto and battle cry of Tom Simpson (pool instructor extraordinaire).

Yep. Stupid questions garner stupid answers. And those who openly admit they are too lazy to look something up deserve even lazier answers.

well so much for simplicity

next time i wont ask

BTW 10 ball is call shot so the simple fact that it has 10 balls means diddly squat cause obviously u dont call shot in 9 ball all i was asking for were the major differences and it appears that is the major difference. :nanner::nanner:

Don't be all offended...!?

You asked, "What is the difference between 9 and 10 ball."
In fact, that is not even a question!

It was a trick and we all got got.

Only thing I would add is

Sorry to say no trickery involved it was a legit question but thanks to my good friend spimp13 and his supurb linking abilities I have read every rule associated with 10 ball and. Now have a better understanding of the game booo yah

in my local room when i say i would rather play 10ball than 9, they ask the employee and he says there's no difference, other than the extra ball. to which i have to respond "Nope, 10 is different, no slop, no 10 on the break." at which point they all look at me like i have 2 heads. *sigh*

That little tab at the top right of your screen that says "Search" can be very useful during your stay here. This forum has been around for a long time, so it stands to reason that a great deal of topics have already been covered in depth.

Furthermore, it often annoys some people (myself included) when people ask questions on here that can be found with a simple Google search. Your question for example, could have been answered with a search on Google. You said you were too lazy to look it up yourself, but I guarantee it took more effort to post the question here than it would have taken to do a search.

I don't want to discourage you from partaking in the conversation around here, but a little common sense goes a long way.
