IVORY 3/8 10 joint.
Looks like IVORY buttcap. Small bumper.
Inlays look Ivory but not rings.
Nice thick veneers. IVORY ferrule.

I had an old, ivory jointed joss with the same ringwork and pin. The butt was stamped though. Points looked pretty similar.

Ring work says Joss West. That may not be the original shaft. I don't know, maybe it is with different ring work.

josswest

looks to me like an old josswest, that the butt cap was replaced, my buddy has a josswest that he bought from stroud in the early 70's it looks identical except one veener is red in it, his butt cap was ivory with the jw, looks like the jw was cut in with an exacto knife.identical jointwork as well. jim

Modified Viking model Z180. Look in the Blue Book of pool cues 3rd edition page 836. Viking would be my vote. The bumper, ring work and joint all say Viking.

Thanks

nope. The buttsleeve is different. Plus a Ivory 3/8 10 joint and the rings are different. No check rings in buttsleeve. Plus the Viking is a ebony colored sleeve. Meaning plastic. This is a ebony wood sleeve. I dont believe a Viking. PLUS where is the logo. I would guess early Joss with a non matching shaft.

National

The tip and bumper don't look like anything I have seen from Joss West but they do remind me of a National cue I saw a few years ago. I agree that the ringwork sure looks like JW.

I have a 1968 & 1972 Joss with similar ringwork and ivory joint with the big 3/8-10 pin, but the rubber bumper is wrong. And, it only has 2 veneers, more like the Viking Troy aka KOINKID referred to, IMHO this is not a Joss. I can post pics tomorrow to compare with.

yes, it has been reworked some, but it is an OLD JW.

Easy to tell

72 and earlier Joss cues will have chaist 3/8-10 threads on the joint pin that they fabricated for the ivory joint cues up until 74 roughly.
JW and newer Joss cues still in the 70's cues will have regular threads on the 3/8-10 pins that were purchased from Mcdermott cues if I rember right.

It's a combo of the cues mentioned. It's a JW butt with a Viking bumper and shaft...

I would bet it's not a Joss or JW. If you look at the white rings on the joint, you can see that they are to white. During this period, both Joss and JW used a white ring that was an off white, sort of opaque looking. Those veneers also look to bulky.

Maybe there was a shifty cue design thief on the loose back in the mid to late 70s....lol. :) I agree with Dick somewhat. Some things look very similar but the prong does indeed look odd, that's for sure. Never seen those chunky veneers on a JW, they look kind of Huebler-esque from that period. May be some kind of bastard cue. Spanky, you might try getting these pics to Bill to confirm.
