He's kind of between the oldest guys in their 80's and my generation of guys in their 70's. He came up along with guys like Buddy, Varner, Rempe and Mizerak.
It wouldn’t be fair to allow 60 year old Earl to compete with the rest, and Efren is likely too strong for the rest of that group as well.
Sigel, Parica, Varner and Hall would be a competitive foursome, assuming Buddy is still playing. I can’t imagine that long smooth stroke with the pronounced pause at the back has changed any!
Archer never paid Oscar? That's pretty shady. You'd think he would be afraid of burning bridges if future matches come up
I saw that- I agree, they didn't play great. Sigel was able to hang with Earl in One Pocket and Banks, but looked out classed in the other disciplines if I recall correctly. They aren't very fond of each other to this day from the banter they displayed!

Yeah. Archer never paid even after having his backers money to do so. Oscar made a post on FB the other day about the whole thing after 6 months of being patient and understanding.
I guess guys will make him and his backers post the money before matches in the future- probably didn’t think they needed to with somebody of Archer’s stature
And this guy somehow has backers to be able to open a new pool room? Good luck to his investors with that venture.
In his prime, Mike Sigel was not only a great Straight Pool and 9-Ball player, but he excelled at One Pocket and Bank Pool. He and Varner were the best all-around players of their generation. They became good friends and business partners as well.

I remember a front page foto in one of the pool mags of Varner, Sigel, and Hopkins all pointing to each other as to who was the best.
if those guys were 90 years old I would avoid a ring game with them at all cost!

There must be more to this story about why he didn’t pay after losing? For a large $ set / session, isn’t the $ supposed to be posted up by both players / backers and held by a neutral party before the match starts?
There’s more to the story but it doesn’t make Johnny look good at all. The whole thing is public on FB and gets explained pretty well.
OD was raised by his dad to be aware of exactly how it works in terms of the arrangements for both party’s posting up the $ when you match up with another player for a big $ session. It’s hard for me to believe he could’ve found himself in this predicament.

After reading the whole thing on FB, it sounds like the only one who didn't have the inside track was Johnny Archer's stakehorse
Maybe he thought that Archer is such a known entity in pool that he didn’t need to require posting
