Old Meucci style joint material

I recently had someone who wanted a shaft with a collar that would match an older Meucci...that off-white, almost amber look. Just wondering what Meucci used way back and if it's available now. If not, what material would come closest. It almost looks like the Natural ABS or PCV in Prather's catalog.

At one time they used lacquer for a finish & it yellowed...JER

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the response!

I had guessed that might also be the reason for the amber tint. The problem is still....how would you try match it in a new shaft collar. I guess I could just use lacquer and wait 25 years  :p

ferrel material?

kind of on the same thread. I have a friend that has an old block lettering meuchi and needs a new ferrel. Does anyone know what the material was and if it's still available?
Thanks!
Terry

Have You compared the color of MP ivory yet to see If It's a match by some chance. I have seen some that It's a good match for, and others that It's not. I'm building a shaft for someone right now, and will probably be Using It to match their ringwork, because It's really close, and their finish fairly clear. I used a spar clear one time and It caused some ambering, but don't know If that would help match It or not. It may take alittle experiementing. :)

It depends on the ferrule type used on that cue, but I have also found the MP to work as a good replacement for the softer ferrules alot of the cues came with.

Hi Terry,

I believe Chris Hightower has some "high action" ferrule material that is suppose to be the same as Meucci ferrules.

Check his web site www.cuesmith.com

Meucci ferrule material

Thanks to all who replied!

I was hoping someone had actually dealt with this problem before. I guess not. I think Cue Crazy said it best..."It may take some experimenting."

The deal for the shaft fell through, so the question was just curiosity at this point. If I ever have to actually deal with it, I'll post results.

Chris does sell the Meucci replacement ferrules and I believe he bought them from whatever source Meucci got them from (or from Meucci). Their coloring and texture are a perfect match. I have a bag of them and have used a few. Everyone who I've replaced one for was very happy with the product. PM me if your buddy is interested in having the work done.
