i did realize also that this thickness of this piece could be used for joints also. just wrap some up in a big old e-z-wider paper and fire that mother up. oops just joking, guys and gals. hopefully this is actually the old ivory micarta and apparently truly space-age. merry christmas to all, woodyosb

Umm lol I guess you will no when you get it.If it does work and some cuemaker makes you some ferrules and they are the yellow micarta let me no I may be intrested in a few.

about 6-10 months ago 4 of these ferrules (if it's the same material) went for $75-90 a piece on eBay. If it's the real deal, you stole it. Well worth the investment if you're right.

not sure

I think the ferules were made from rolled material, not flat board. On the other hand this material may be thick enough to turn ferules from plugs with the layers perpendicular to the tip. It's yours now, might as well see how it works both ways.

One more thought: John Robinson of Robinson cues in Scottsdale, AZ uses micarta for his joint material. Why don't you give him a call to see if this is what he uses. He may be interested in it or at least give you some helpful info about it.

This looks to be the old brown linen micarta not the jewelers grade micarta they make ferrules from ............ The brown micarta is the stuff they used for butt caps and joint material........ I do work in power plants and G.E. has this type of stuff lying around in boards like the auction you won.............:p

micarta in power plants!

did they line boilers in power plant with micarta tiles? i have some friends around maysville/louisa, ky that did work at a power plant. wheels are turning; i am still on the hunt. does anyone know what the uses were for the micarta used for ferrules and knife handles were??

I dont know about lining boilers but the brown linen micarta was used as an insulater material in the generators and for other electrical insulating jobs .... Being a non conductor of electricity.......;)
