Old micarta Scruggs

micarta joint

Here is a little eye candy for all you TS fans. I've never seen one of Timmy's cues with a Micarta joint, but here is one for sure. Complete with 2 original shafts, one has a Micarta ferrule. I have no idea (well a good guess ;) ) what its worth...maybe some of you Scruggs experts can put a number on it for me. I believe this is a keeper.:) Thank you for looking.

Tim made me a cue in 1988-89. It was a variation on his model with the four veneered ivory windows in the butt sleeve. It came with a micarta joint and ferrule. I had it refinished in 2004 and switched out the micarta joint and ferrule for ivory. The hit was dramatically changed; much for the better in my opinion.

a question??

Now, I have spoken of a Scruggs cue, (in the past) with a micarta ferrule and got told that the ferrule was not original...What gives? Did he or did he not use it? Granted, I wasn't fond of the way it played, but thats of no concern...Maybe you Scruggs guys can give me a heads-up as to whether or not it may be original. Unfortunately I have no pics cause its not my cue.

He did indeed use them on early cues....ferrules & joints. You are seeing the proof here with pictures.;) Just a bit rare.

As the original owner of said cue, yes Tim used Micarta for joint and ferrule. I thought it played great and, looking back, probably should have kept the cue, but I know it is in great hands and I still get to see it whenever I want.

YOurs

Probably 4500 +/-

I love the boxed veneers on that thing. I have one with boxed veneers as well and I have the same joint rings too! Check out my pics in my signature below. I'd say the cue is worth at least $3000 but I'm no expert, I'm actually curious what mine might be worth too, but I'll save that for my own thread.

Cheers,
Jim

Old stuff

Prety cue. It is hard to set a value on anything like this cue. Last night I had a call from a old timer and the $2300 range was mentioned.
I sold a signed box veneer cue with ivory a while back and see it on fleabay now and then in the $2000 range.
The newer cues have longer points and are well like new. If the cue is in origional condition and not refinished I think it worth more. If not less.
Nick :)

I do know the cue is in original condition and has never been refinished. I also don't think he will part with it.

Wow! I love to read all the responses about my cue. Slim, you are right. I have absolutely no intensions of parting with this one. And yes, it is all original. Come on down. I'm ready for another marathon.

Good. I have been practicing so I am going to kick your a$$!

If one of you two had a Varney j/b to use....it'd be no contest. One of you would be playing 6 ball while the other plays 9 ball.;) :D

I told Z Man he should get one. I have a Jacoby I really like, but who knows, when I come to Charlotte I may be in the market for something new.
