Old pool balls

I thought there was a thread asking about them, but I can't find it. So, I have a friend who runs the pool/bowling area of the student union. He has some pool balls from a storage room down in the basement that look old. I was wondering if they have any value? Suggestions as to how to go about finding out would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only sets of balls that would be of any value are original centenials. Even then you would have to find a collector that wants to add them to the collection. Ivory balls on the other hand are highly sought after and very uncommon. If you have any Ivory balls they would be worth a ton.

Yeah, ivory balls are nice. I once had a chance to purchase a set of three ivory three cushion billiard balls. I'll never forget the wooden box in which they were originally sold. The inner lid of the box had information about how the balls were made "from the tusks of Zanzibar elephants." Apparently, that was a selling point once upon a time. How would I have known whether or not the Zanzibar elephant tusk produced top quality ivory or not? On reflection, I wish I'd bought them.

They sure are sjm, I happen to have a set that my dad bought for me years ago at a flea market. The guy did not know what they were and he bought them for 5 bucks. The colorfull patterns of the ivory are unique and the orginal billiards balls were about the same size as pool balls which surprised me. I wouldn't trade them for the world.
