I have recently come across some old square handled onepiece house cues, that are a butterfly style look. They seem to be circa 1900-1940. Is it possible that the square handle section is Brazilian Rosewood? It sure looks like it to me, but just thought I'd ask. There is really no distinguishing marks on them other than the apparent weight of the cue stamped into the wood.
Regards.

Could be, but who knows for sure? I bought an old house cue at an antique store because I thought it was brazilian rosewood. I cut it down & immediately realized it was not brazilian. It was camatillo rosewood. I hadn't thought they even used it that long ago, but apparently they used whatever came on a pallet from below the border!!! It had darkened so much it looked almost like macassar ebony. The variegated grain gave me the hint of it being brazilian. But no, it was definitely camatillo. It was a good surprise!!!
