During the last couple of weeks after reading Arizona Billiards News, I decided to check out some of the places to play Pool near where I live.

Seems there are few what I will call Real Pool Rooms with Big Tables, like when I was younger.

Rooms that are totally dedicated to Pool, where you could get a Cold Drink, a Beer, a Hot Dog, or Burger. But the Room was all about Pool. Maybe have a Pro Shop

Now most of the places to Play Pool, are Sports Bar Orientated with too many T.V. Screens, Off Track Betting, Darts, Expresso Bars, Big Menus, or just a Bar (Watering Hole) with a bunch of Bar Box Tables.

Think I liked things like they were in the old Days better.

The one thing I really do not enjoy about the trend is that the music gets so loud on league nights you cannot here you opponent call his shot. I do miss the quiet atmosphere where you can relax.
Thanks!

Amen to that brother. I didn't even like my rock 'n roll too loud when I was young (whenever that was).

Want an old style room? Try out Chris's in Chicago... three rooms, the real deal.

But that style is dying out, and the owner at Chris's told me that most pool rooms these days make their money on food, and the pool is the hook to get you in the door...

billiard rooms

First off, metal and hand banging and rap should be banned
from billiard room jukeboxes, that is if the room owner has
consideration for the regular pool playing individuals. Nothink
is more irritating than playing in a tournament, having a hard
match, and some of this music comes on super loud. It makes
concentrating almost impossible.

I find that it is usually because of a cultural group - immature
overgrown teenagers (the 21-25 age group). They are usually
more concerned with SHOW, than with substance.

That's why every now and then, I meander down to Club Billiards,
a place right out of the 40's, that is old time, with several card
tables for cards and dominoes, and the snooker table in town
that sees many a good golf game played on it for $5,10, 20
a person, with .50, 1.00, and 2,00 a hickey. They have great
double cheeseburgers, just old time music on the jukebox, always
with a bunch of oldtimers that are willing to share great stories
with you. It is like a throwback in time, but you come away from
with a nice feeling. And playing golf on a snooker is a nice break
from normal Pool, and you might even learn something from those
old guys ....

I am Jurassic ast the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s were the BEST TIME for me. I do not own a Cell Phone, I do not own a Pager, I do not use a ATM Card because I don’t have one.

I live in an AGE RESTRICTED Community were you have to be 55 to live here. I say at least three time a day, say to myself things were better back then.

I remember when you went to a Car lot to buy a Car is was a Desoto, Chevy, Ford, Packard, Henry J, Imperial, Edsel, or..

Your choices were simple. Coupe, Four Door, Station Wagon, Pick up Truck.

Tap...tap...tap

I could not agree more. Just last night in my local room...in a tough match with a second place team, and they put a cadre of goth kids on the table next to us...loud, drunk, half naked children doing what children do after too much Budwiser and too many jello shots! Drove me nuts!

Back in the day they would have never got into Loree Johns...Snooker, Billiards, all 9ftr's, full Pro shop and services, as well as tables sales and repairs. The 'Old Timers' played 14:1, 3 Cushion, 1-Pocket, Chess, Checkers, Cards and Domino's. They also taught the 'Youngins' the game. Those lessons always included respect for the game, the equipment, the room and proper Pool Etiquette.
