Old War Stories

no, what happened probable was that the guy didnt ask if he could side bet. you have to do that or your are cutting into someones action. and that is wrong.
he dumped off the new guys action till he quit. as you cant let that shit happen.
had nothing to do with dumping and splitting with anyone. or trying to get more later on.

ive had that happen to me a few times as most knew i usually won any bet i made. so i would tell them no, or maybe let them bet a little.
but if my opponent was willing i always told him he could bet more with me if he wanted.

but if i said no and they still forced a bet i told them i would miss every ball until they pulled up. and that's what i did but it only took one game for them to take a walk and cuss me out.

the guy that horned in on the action was pretty stupid for not seeing it after the first game and should have pulled up. but he was greedy and had dollar signs in his eyes and got what he deserved.

You start a gambling-theme thread on a forum of nothing but pool nuts and you don't like how you got treated. Tough shit. Take your ball and go home. If you expected everyone to just roll with your take you definitely are in the wrong place. We all are seriously opinionated so having a THICK skin is a pre-requisite when coming on here. Gotta be able to give the needle and take it. I like your posts if that means shit to you.
Thanks Gar, you're right for sure there. again though, not butthurt just don't appreciate "Wrong". No, I'm not wrong at all. I could provide more insight but what would be the point. Pretty dumb stance to take by that guy but hey we are all a bunch of idiots at the end of the day for not picking a better hobby so yeah I should expect such replies. Noted

The problem is that three unbelievably stupid people have to meet at the same time and place when all are supposed to be experienced pool hall characters. A bookie that is a low C player at best but regularly goes off for thousands. Such a person wouldn't be able to remain a bookie long since funds to cover bets promptly at all times is one of the musts to be a bookie.

A player that will go off for three thousand hoping to win an extra thousand cash instead of the same thousand in known good credit according to the story. The player was making $300 a game but then played twenty games for free just to get back to where he was when he started dumping, risking something happening when he was as much as three thousand in the hole. Sounds likely!

Then we have the third party horning in. No reason for the player to risk a penny if he knows the bookie well. A quick look back and forth would seal the deal that the bookie and the other player were chopping up the rail bird with their own bets frozen until that was done.

The whole thing doesn't meet the sniff test starting with the player dumping three thousand in the same time he could have been winning three thousand. You might convince me he dumped one or even a couple games to teach the railbird horning in a lesson but ten games? That means twenty games, ten to lose it and ten to get back to zero, so four to six thousand and several hours just pissed away!

I have never had somebody with their nose open for more than a hundred a game at nine ball and I had to play them as carefully as a record trout on a two pound leader to keep the hook in them. At one a game I was thinking every game might be the last, I definitely would be sweating just that at three hundred a game.

When we look at the supposed game logically from the viewpoint of either player it doesn't make any sense.

My sentiments exactly. Completely non sensical to dump off that many games for such a small POTENTIAL benefit. Just dumb. But it happened. I’d rather not say who the champion was as he’s no longer with us and a name that most everyone in this forum would know.
