if a olive wood insert was used in a shaft at the joint, is there a specific way the grain should run?..also your opinion if this should be used would be welcome..thanks, joe

Kinda expensive for an insert.
I know Ned Morris used it b/c it threads nicely.
But, bocote threads nicely too and is more stable.

Whatever wood you decide on for an insert, orientate the grain in the same direction as the grain of the shaft.

Wood Shaft Inserts

Hi: KATALOX. Stable. tight grained and threads beautifully. If you are going to use Olive make sure it is Italian, not Bethlehem.

What's the difference in the italian vs. the bethlehem olives?

Hi: I stock both species and find the Italian to have a tighter grain. It is also more stable. I have heard, but cannot verify, that the Bethelem olive is harvested from branches and the Italian from trunk wood.

No wood from any branch of any tree should ever be used for anything other than wood pulp for news papers or magazines and even then the pages curl.
