I believe and I may be wrong but billiards is apart of the worls games not the olympics, and I do believe that it is a summer event

Billiards is not yet an Olympic sport, but I do know that the various billiards associations are all working to try and get it into the Olympics sometime in the near future. There are rules and requirements that have to be met in order for the IOC (Int'l Olympic Committee) to even consider a sport for Olympic eligibility. I do not know what the requirements are...nor where billiards stands in meeting these requirements...but I know that gaining entry into the World Games was a big step toward reaching the Olympic goal.

On a different note, I was reading a report the other day that ranked sports by physical difficulty. The IOC determined a set of standards, and then ranked each sport against those standards to figure out which was the most physically demanding sport. The answer....Boxing. Swimming, soccer, football, basketball and gymnastics were all in the Top 10, but I don't remember what order. The reason I bring it up is because Billiards was second to last....right ahead of fishing....LOL. I guess it is good to know that if I want to burn calories, I should choose a game of 9-ball rather than go fishing! Anyhow, I just thought I'd throw a fun fact out there for y'all....

The thing is though... Where it lacks in physical endurance and strength it picks up in difficulty. Billiards is one of the most accurate sports in the world. If i remember right on an average 9 ft if you miss hit a ball by 1/10th of an inch it can be off by an entire foot. Some would say it's more accurate than even golf because of the two ball and cue variable.

The last time i read and heard about billiard being out of the
Olympics is not necessarily on the physical demand (although
that is one factor), but the fact that it has multiple discipline,
that it has no single form that it is associated with. To be more
specific billiards have 9 ball, carom, 8-ball, 10-ball, snooker etc.
to name the many disciplines that you have to associate it with.
I dont know if i am that accurate at this point because this
was about 4 years or more ago.
And i should know because the Philippines (being a filipino myself)
has been batting for the inclusion of billiards and bowling where
we excel so much. On bowling we have our very own Paeng
Nepomuceno who was on the guiness book of world records for
winning the world cup 4 times and in three different decades
the 70s,80s and 90s. And currently the world cup bowling champ
is C.J. Suarez who happens to be a filipino. Of course i dont
have to mentioned billiards you all guys know.

No; Summer sport(no snow on the table)-World games yes...

For a number of years the BCA has worked to get the U. S. Olympic Committe to recognize them as the sanctioning body for pool players in the US. The WPA achieved OAC recognition of pool as a sport about 5 years ago.

For the BCA to be recognized by the USOC they would be required to put two professional player on the BCA Board of Directors. Thought the BCA made moves to do that they failed to enact those requirements into reality. The "Trade Association" did not want player input (votes) on the board. The USOC gave up on wait for the BCA to comply and told the board that the could reaply for consideration in 2007 if the Players were on the board. The BCA counter acted all inclusion of players being on the BCA Board of Directors and promtply put the BCA pool league up for sale.

The USOC will only recognize a non-profit organization that represents pool players and abides by the WPA rules, hence a partial reason for the formation of the new ACS (America CueSports) [see their web site for details]. If the ACS can show compliance to the USOC within two years we have a shot at inclusion into the Pan-Am Games in 2006 which is the next step in getting to the Olympics. Inclusion in the Pan -Am games also releases USOC funds for teaching and training US Olympic hopefuls in their sport.

Chances of pool/billiards ever being an olympic sport are quite slim, because nowadays in IOC they're planning to cut down the number of sports in olympics instead of getting more. And there are many extremely popular games/sports which are not (yet) inducted to olympic games like golf.
