Omen (Pete Ohmen)

I just recieved a new Omen cue this weekend. For a reference, I own or have owned,Hercek,Tascarella,Scruggs,Bender,Jensen, South-West,White,Sugartree,Howard,Blackcreek,Wheeler,
Olney,Rauenzahn and many other top tier cues. I usually have 2 cues at a time- my current player and the challenger to become my current player. I have a 6 point/ 4 veneer South West style Ebony into Purpleheart Omen. The points, veneer and finish are in the same category with the above makers ,it is very well done. To be nit picky but, when the shafts are screwed down tight, the indexed ring on one of the shaft's is a hair off from being lined up with the ring on the joint. The wood he used is also first rate and highly figured. As a matter of fact, the shaft wood is better than almost all of cues I've owned, and equal the top 2 or 3. That's saying alot because I only buy cues that have good shaft wood or, what I call good shaft wood. The shaft taper is what I would call med-stiff, it plays firm and lively. I would say it reminds me of something between a South West and a scruggs. It's easy to see why some people think this is the magic wand. I don't yet know if this cue will dethrone my Howard as my current player. I can tell you that, IMHO this is one of the best playing cues out there and it happens to be less than half the price, with a few exceptions, of most of it's compitors. There are alot of very good cuemakers out there right now, Pete Ohmen is definately in that group.
thanks-jeff

I too have owned everything from hercek to Mottey to Scruggs to Sugartree to Bender to.... you get the idea. Pete's cues play just as good if not better than most any other cue out there. I have owned several and have NEVER been disappointed!!! Not once.

And as a side note, just to tell you the kind of businessman Pete is...

about three or four years ago, I stopped by his booth at Valley Forge. I had already owned two Omens so I wanted to take a peek at what he had. I fell in love with a plain jane he had (highly figured cocobolo, silver rings, ivory joint and buttcap). Normally, this kind of cue would go for $1200 or so but Pete offered it to me for under $900.

I did everything I could to come up with the money by day's end but alas... I came up short (about $800 short! :D ). A month or so later, I emailed Pete seeing if he could design a similar cue. He said he remembered the cue in question, still had it, and sold it to me at the same price offered at the show.

Great cues. Great guy. And an amazing player!

I just picked up an Omen cue in a trade. Very nice cue, good player, nice long points, with a quilted maple forearm. I love the 3/8-11 pins on these cues, very unique, almost like Southwest. I spoke with Pete for quite a while and he seems like a very active cue builder. Busy but not too busy. Definitely a guy that wants to work with people, and he likes to do the repair-refinish work too.

Hey Jeff, Glad to hear you had a good experience with your Ohman cue. Pete is quality minded when it comes to his cues and he has a good eye for detail. He also plays at a highly skilled level and I think that has helped him in building cues that play good. I have new cues on order with Pete and am looking forward to their arrival in about 4 weeks and having more of Pete's fine cues in stock after that. If Bryan has good things to say about Pete...its a plus...when it comes to cues he's not easy to please!

Omen Jump Cues

I agree with what other members have been posting...Omen cue offer great playability for reasonable price...they use the best materials and Pete himself is an accommodating craftsman.

What sold me, however, was the performance of his jump cues. I tried them at Valley Forge and found that my break and jump shots immediately improved with an Omen.

Since then, Pete has matched several cue themes and even made inlay plates for a Whitten cue case. If you want a monster jump break cue, consider Omen among the best. Pete Ohman's shop number: 321-951-8123 e-mail pohman@cfl.rr.com

Regarding Pete Ohman

Of course you guys knew I would plug OmenCues for various reasons.....

But the main aspect that I wanted to point out about Mr. Ohman's talent and craftsmanship is this:

Since knowing him for 20+ yrs. I have watched Pete evolve from assembling cue kits in his garage to building full blown custom built cues with intricate custom inlay work from scratch in his 2 story self contained shop and one thing that has never been lost or compromised in his well deseved recognition and success is the quality of his work !

I have been in his shop counteless times in the years past and it seems everytime I walk in there he's always got something new and interesting going on and enjoys sharing his latest innovation and/or cue designs with me !

He's one of the very few people I know that NO ONE has anything bad to say about him... he's a very charming and likable guy and has an undying passion for cuemaking and all that it entails and that is a staple in his talent !

I personally feel very priveleged to be considered his friend and the years of cuemaking knowlege he has shared with me is invaluable !

Pete is one of the most upstanding forthright and honest person I know and I recommend anyone who is looking to invest money into a custom cue to consult "OmenCues".... you will NOT be disappointed !!!

Very Sincerely, Eddie Wheat
