On the 8, no hit, scratch = Loss of game?

Doesn't say anything about fouling while playing the 8, only if pocketing it at the same time. Leagues just make up weird little "bar rules" of their own.

The way i read it is in part A it says "pocketing" and all the others it is "pocketed". For me it is interpretation to not even having to make the 8.

Good catch. Part A should be "Pockets the eight ball and fouls." The 2013 revision of the WPA rules (WSR) is beginning now. I will make sure that wording change gets considered.

The rule is very cut and dry. I always played by that rule until I play in BCA leagues. This can't not be a real pool player putting up this post, has to be someone trying to stir up crap.

I'm very much a real pool player. I was just curious about the rule. :)

The rules are similar to the APA rule book, but I've never played in the APA because all I hear is bad things about it. I'm not trying to stir up crap, I was in need of answers and this is the best place to do it.

Sorry

I don't know the APA rules, and I am sorry if I sounded out of line. There are too many rules in 8 ball out there. Yes this is a good place to get answers.

I will agree with you there for sure! Other than playing in this bar league, I've been starting to play 14.1. Very helpful information around here

The way it is worded this says that while you are attempting to pocket the 8, if you foul and do not pot the 8, it is not a loss of game. It is a standard foul which means ball-in-hand for your opponent.

* (a1) If you pot the 8 and foul then it is a loss of game. (no balls are spotted so now there is no way to end the game)

(b) If you pot the 8 too early, since no balls are spotted, there is no way to end the game.

(c) If you pot the 8 in the wrong pocket, you lose (if it were your color, it would be loss of turn. However, it is not spotted so no one will be able to pot it and end the game).

(d) If you drive the 8 off the table, you lose (since no balls are spotted and again, you would have nothing to play on a any succeeding turn).

I don't think the wording needs to be radically changed although it could be expanded a little. Committing a foul while attempting to pot the 8 should not carry any extra penalty as long as the black remains on the table and is available to either player afterward.

In APA 8-ball, it is a loss to scratch when shooting at the 8 by picketing the cue ball. Also by picketing the 8 early (accidently) or not in the pocket called (or yes, "marked"). And if you make the 8 on the break, and the cue ball as well, it is also a loss.

APA is primarily a bar box league in many parts of this country, so that very well may explain the reasoning for these rules. (Not having to drop more quarters.). I have to remember this, as almost the entire state here plays on 9-footers :) so dropping quarters is a bit foreign to me.

I think I speak for everyone davem when I say you're an asshole. It was a clear loss and you cried like a little baby, way to be a man you r dad must be proud of his little girl.

Out of all the posts in this thread you're the only asshole I've noticed yet, 'Banikane'. Now go cry to 'wilson' to ban me because I used the same language as one of the privileged registered members.

Asshole.
