On The Hill; Hill/hill

Military advice: If you do take the hill, don't stand too tall when you are on top of that hill because your silhouette will make you a great target for a mediocre sniper.

Absolutely irhgt, Joey! If I remember correctly Hannibal, upon taking a key hill during the Third Punic War, yelled out to the Carthaginian army "Watch out for the snipers!"

Yeah, but he meant "snippers" as his hair was getting pretty long after that particular war.

You should get some rest. :D

Hey, when are you going to put in a word for me to get some practice pool with Ralf? I never see him practicing with anyone else. Even Shane occasionally practices with the little guys. I am lining up the big dogs for lessons on racking and Ralf is one of the biggest boys in the business and I know you and he are good buds.

My guess, is that this is a fairly new term and one that is primarily used by the billiard community.

"On the bubble" which is also a fairly new term, which means "On the threshold, finely balanced between success and failure".

A bubble is similar in shape to a hill.......
JoeyA (that's all I got)

Joey,

During Nascar qualifying the slowest car in the field is "on the bubble". Any car that goes faster than the car on the bubble knocks the bubble car out of the race. I suppose the term bubble is used because it can be popped quickly and you have nothing left.

Now the only question that remains is did anyone hear the term "on the hill" before Nascar was Nascar?

Thanks Paul,

Ralf told me he browses the forum from time to time. I'm sure when he sees your post, he'll be looking for you.

By the way, if you worship him the way I do, it won't hurt your chances.

I normally save the worshiping for the higher power and Efren  but I guess I can make room for another omnipotent influence, especially after seeing the class he shows in winning or losing.

Unfortunately, I was goaded into making a $50 bet against Ralf.:embarrassed2: It was the Turning Stone Casino tournament yesterday. Yes, it was embarassing in more ways than one.

Ralf won his final match against one of America's rising stars, Dennis Hatch convincingly. Ralf played some terrfic pool and got some terrific rolls.

He deserves everything he has earned and all that Lady Fortune has seen fit to send his way.

Congratulations to Ralf for another amazing career win.

I always thought it was a reference to the bubble in a carpenter's level - where being "on the bubble" means precariously balanced. But that's just my assumption.

I think it must be from that Beatles song.
