Hey Guys, I've got a rare one of a kind Sledge Hammer designed by and made for Tony Watson and built by Mike Gulyassy in his shop. I bought it from Tony 3 years ago at a tournament, when he went bust. This is not an overseas model. All the white tribal designs in the butt sleeve are ivory. The forearm tribal designs are ebony. The forearm is curly maple and the butt sleeve is ebony. All the white checkers in the ring works is holly. It has a black stack leather wrap. The cue is in 95-97% overall. It was refinished by Mike, 5 months ago. There is a very, very slight runout in the shaft, but then again it's a break cue. I asked Mike what it would cost to get this cue made, he quoted me $2200.

Please PM me with offers.

I want to offer this, M. Gulyassy cues SUCK..............
I have had 3 of them and they have all warped on me. They were all
kept in perfect conditions, yet all the shafts seem to warp badly for no good reason. Plus they do not hold chalk, no matter what is done to the tip they will no take chalk. I have never miscued so much in my life, using any cue except with the Sledgehammer. Mike Gulyassy should have tried to build a better break cue instead of tring to get rich by selling out his bad product to Mcdermott..............Good Luck

Ha,

He said what everyone is thinking!!!!

Ouch...thats gotta hurt..............mike

My friend who did great cue work took a cheapo Sigelcues b/j cue and put a phenolic tip on it. It turned out to be a MONSTER, way better than any Sledgehammer. I ended up selling it. To be honest though, I've never liked any break cue much better than my old MACE. Wish I still had it. I'm going to have to get another one soon enough.

And the 'lifetime warranty' is not reality either. Don't forget to add that.

I see where this is going

I have to agree, the sledgehammer has gone WAY downhill. I know this is an older one that was made by Mike. But he really has killed his cue values with his get rich quick scheme. The new sledgehammers literally fall apart as you uses them, becuase they've been thrown together WAY to fast, with no time to cure. Thanks for being bashingly honest. EVERYONE!

What about his custom cues?

Never owned a sledgehammer, so I don't have an opinion on them. I had a plain Gulyassy cue with phenolic joint that I bought for about $200 that I thought played great. Does McDermott still market the sledgehammer, or has mike ended that deal?

Just to be clear, this particular sledgehammer is one of his custom cues. Made by Mike from scatch. Still it appears that the value of all of his cues has ben hurt by his sledgehammer scam.

I've never heard of 'the Sledgehammer scam'...what is it?

Also I've never been impressed by the cue...not for the unrealistic price he has on them...

When I say scam, I mean sellout!

I was simply talking about how his very first original sledgehammers were built quite well, then he traded quanity for quality, in a scam to make himself more money.

I very much hate to say it, but I am on my third shaft. I had to pay for the third "custom" shaft made by Mike and now seems to have fixed the warpage problem.

The second shaft I had warped dramatically withing two weeks, and I closely monitored it since I had problems with the first.
