One of the fastest matches ever...Earl vs Drago

I didn't watch it just looked at the times but that didn't seem so fast.

Just under 40 minutes for 15 games, an average of about 2 min. 40 sec. per game, including the lag and racking.

Luc Salvas and Lee Brett had a quick one at the most recent Turning Stone event -- 35 minutes for 13 games, about the same pace as the Strickland/Drago match.

Neither of these matches was quite as fast-paced as the Shaw/Immonen match at TS XXIII (about 2.3 minutes per game), but that one lasted only 10 games.

Edit -- See post # 14; the Strickland/Drago match was not as quick as we thought.

I remember taking shaw in a Calcutta for that tournament and went to get a bite to eat and came back to a 7-0 score. Lol. Finishing a match that quick without any games being conceded is mind blowing

Hard to tell, but it looks like Mika might have conceded the last game with all but the 1-ball (made on the break) still on the table.

You're right, he conceded the last game after scratching on the break.

I got to meet Tony at the US Open last year, was watching some matches and he asked if he could have the seat next to me. Really nice guy. Just so happened Earl was playing his match and starting to go into full Earl mode. Talking to the crowd and to his opponent, who didn't speak english. I asked Tony if Earl's antics bothered him. He responded no, I love Earl he's exciting.

Like I said, I didn't watch it. Were there combos or games won on the break that made it go so quick.?

Well, I watched the YouTube video today. It turns out that this match was not really as fast-paced as first thought. The YouTube video was about 39 minutes and 50 seconds from lag to the potting of the final ball. But that video does not include two of the games -- Games 7 and 8, both won by Drago. The video shows the first 6 games, taking the score to 3-3. But then the next game takes the score to 6-3 Drago.

So it was about 40 minutes for 13 of the games instead of 15. Still quick, but not as quick.

As to whether some of the games were short, yes, Drago had a 2/9 combo in Game 6 and a 1/9 combo in Game 10.

Earl had 4 break-and-run games on his 7 breaks.

Those factors probably accounted for it. Break and runs by Earl will speed things up, he doesn't stand around looking at things much. I did see a very fast one pocket match once. It was in a tournament in Ohio at Joe Burns place. Mike Carella was playing Freddy the Beard a race to 4 one pocket.

They started the four matches all at the same time and when Mike won not one game had been finished on the other three tables. In one table no balls had even been made yet.

What happened was Mike broke first and made a ball on his own break and ran out. Then Freddy broke and Mike banked a ball and ran out. Mike amazingly again made a ball on his break and ran out. Then Freddy broke and in like one or two innings Mike cut in a ball and ran out. 4 to 0

I found this for some who don't know who Mike was

Interesting match, no messing about with these guys as far as pace of play is concerned. Then your standard Earl implosion at the end.
