One Pocket Rules ????

No, I would tell him the truth: "I'm sorry, I really do NOT know the answer to that question; you should consult an up-to-date rule book if you want an accurate answer."

And by the way, "snotty" is a poor choice of words. It conjures up disgusting images in one's mind (and you know the images I'm talking about). So to call another person "snotty" might not be any better than calling them an idiot. ;)

Roger
Why didn't you confess to your lack of knowledge up front. 12310bch pretty much said it all.

For crying out loud, ANY pool room worth its salt will have a copy of the rule book! If, for some ungodly reason, they don't, buy them one! I had to do this sometime back because the owner of a new local room didn't have a copy and the only rules he actually knew were the league rules he himself had played by. Disgraceful!!

Yep

I'm not any of those mentioned...but I'll answer.

#1...Because he's a nit.

#2...He talks to hear himself talk....

#3...He has NO idea...yet will chirp in EVERY thread.

#4...He won't support local tournaments.

#5...He's CHEAP.

#6...He posts NON stop.

#7...He's been banned 2-3 times already.

#8...GOOGLE..is too hard for him to spell.

#9...He visits the action room, and 'his' max bet is 25 CENTS a game.

#10...He's a NIT. (did I already say that?)

Is that enough? Or do you need some more.....

LOL, No, you said enough! Anything else and folks might get the impression you are only joking !!
Hard to believe Roger is a pool instructor with an attitude like that, and also lacking knowledge of the game that he can't even answer a pretty simple question about 1P... Well Done Roger.

Here is the official rule from onepocket.org:

2.2 The opening break begins with ball in hand behind the head string. On the break, the cue ball may contact either a cushion or any ball in the rack first, but in either case, after contacting at least one ball, an object ball must be pocketed, or the cue ball or at least one object ball must contact a rail, otherwise it is a one foul penalty. As long as a legal stroke is employed from behind the head string on the break, the incoming player must play the balls where they lie – there are no re-racks for a pocket scratch or failure to contact a cushion or pocket a ball on the break.

So the breaker would be on one foul, and the incoming player would shoot from wherever the balls laid.

It is wonderful to have FORUM MEMBERs like gulfportdoc who share their wealth of knowledge freely.

THANK DOC, and you get a GREENIE!!!!!!:bow-down::bow-down::bow-down::bow-down::bow-down:

What was "snotty" about it? I thought I answered the question concisely and logically. I only revisited this thread because I noticed it was getting quite a few replies, and I began wondering how there could be so much discussion on such a simple subject.

The rule book is the official source for finding answers to questions like Coco's. It's the route that all serious pool players take. They don't go to forums and ask others to do their research for them and then bring it back to lay it at their feet for free.

Mueller sells rule books for $6.00. Or Coco might be able to pick one up at Diamondback Billiards at 59th Ave. and Bell Rd. for a couple bucks more. From where he lives, that might cost him about 50 cents in gasoline. So, for ten bucks or less, Coco could have his original question, plus many others, answered correctly.

Roger

on the contrary, i don't know ANY "serious" pool player that carries around a rule book.

truth is the answer to this question lies in your opponent. if he's a hapless dupe, let him break again. if he's a good player, tell him to mark one up and shoot your shot.

Roger Long, If you check back you will see that I did not call you snotty. I was referring to your response to Cowboys question. I ,as I said , still have
nothing against you, although it is is a mystery why you responded to the OP in the first place. Let's shake hands and assume that my perception was incorrect and that your motives were pure. O.K.?

Ignorance - The state in which one lacks knowledge.

My tolerance for ignorance of BCA rules is directly related to how long my opponent has been exposed to BCA rules.

If my opponent is new to the wide wonderful world of BCA I will spend whatever time is necessary to explain the new and unfamiliar rules.

If on the other hand my opponent is a seasoned veteran ....

Well...

I expect them to own their own copy of the rules.
I expect they have read their copy of the rules.
I also expect them to have reading comprehension and reasonable short/long term memory.

I dont think thats too much to ask

I'm with you. Before I play any new game, I look up the rules and read so I can understand.

With the easy availability of the rules on the internet, it is really simple to find and read.

I will only ask a rule question on the forum if:

1. I have searched for and really can't find. or

2. There is something in the rules which is not clear and I need clarification.

thx

Rick, I got that, and that was ****ing funny!!!

I couldn't stop laughing.

Since the actual URL of the website has to be censored on the forum....it's disables the link.

I'm sure once Google gets wind of it, it will be history.

Went ahead and circumvented the problem. Now I have it archived for later use....

Well if you come to the Valley of the Sun ever you will find out most Pool is played in Bars, on Bar Boxes, and most don't have rule book!

Think Kolby's in Tempe, and Main Street in Mesa are the closet thing to REAL POOL ROOMS we got, and I would think there is a chance both have a rules book. But I am not sure as I have not been to kolby's in over two years.

Also Kolby's in Tempe, and Main Street in Mesa only serve BEER, and NO HARD STUFF!

Plus I will agree that any place there is Tournament Play be it Bar, or Real Pool ROOM should have a Rule Book, now the question is BCA, TAP, ACS, APA, or some Rule Book for the Rule of Tournament Play????

Cocacolacowboy and Roger both have done a lot for the sport of billiards in the Phoenix area. I know Roger personally and he is a really good person and one hell of pool player. The forum is here to ask question from people who something about pool. I guess its a good thing that they didn't PM you for the answers. Oh and if you are going to call people a nit....I would seriously consider changing that stupid picture on your avitar, either that or quit taking the little yellow bus to to the pool hall.

What are you talking about?

I know Rodger as well....I have ZERO problems w/Rodger. I think you better read it over...rover.

Are you related to Coo Coo?....

"The forum is here to ask question from people who something about pool."

Am I supposed to fill in the blanks?? This isn't Jeopardy.

Yes, ask questions. But don't fill up every forum with questions that can be Googled. Then expect someone else to do the work for you and answer it.

12,440 questions..(or posts)..in 2 years. Get's a little monotonous, don't you think?

You don't like Dennis Hatch's hat? You want his phone number to call and tell him it's a "stupid picture'?

He put it on after winning the MVP at the Mosconi Cup last month.
