One Pocket Skills v Jump Cues

I know a lot of players, particularly the younger ones, don’t play one pocket for various reason. It’s too slow, takes too long to play, you have to think, you have too many safeties, jump cues are not allowed and you need to know banking and kicking systems. what they don’t realise is that a lot of skills used in one pocket can be applied to 9,10 and 8 ball. It’s unfortunate that jump cues are permitted in 8, 9 and 10 therefore eliminating skills that were important before their existence.
I've heard the others many times but not once I've heard someone say the reason they don't play one pocket is because jump cues aren't allowed. Even when jump cues are allowed, you still need to have skill in banking and kicking. Watch any event that allows jump cues and you see many bank and kick shots. I don't think there is a high percentage of times that a player chooses a jump shot when they have a decent bank shot available.

Anybody I match up with playing 1pocket is more than welcome to use their jump cue anytime they want! 😊🤤

Even without jump cues, one pocket will teach you so many things that will translate well to other games. Anyone who won't play one-pocket just because jump cues aren't permitted is missing out on a good opportunity to hone the skill set they'll need to win at other disciplines.
