one pocket strategy question

I play one pocket every Saturday with the same guy and usually we break even or one of us is up a game or two.
My Fargo is 576 his is 554 so we are pretty close.
The only advantage he has is that he banks a little better than me and I try not to leave an easy bank or if no choice I try to leave it off angle a bit.
I have tried two different strategy's I play very aggressive or very conservative and neither seems to gain the upper hand.

You've got to work on your sharking.

Carefully how much you improve it can lead to new problems.😉😁😆😅

its about learning how to win against a certain player that counts. not much of the other stuff means much.

you have to know what he shoots at and what he doesnt. and play accordingly. and what he makes and doesnt. so you know where and what to leave him.

the pros make all kinds of shots most should never attempt unless it make it or lose. yet many still shoot at them. if you dont know what % of the time you will make a certain shot, or he will, you then have no idea of whether you should shoot it or not.

then you are playing blind. as most do, and that applies to your 9 ball game as well.

It's never too late to obtain more knowledge about the game. Cue ball control, kicking, banking, pocketing etc. The more you know and can put to work on the table will give you the advantage over your current opponent.

Does he ever leave his drink unattended?

Just kidding! 🤣

Honestly if you're close FR and both play the game that's kind of the expected results. Shore up your banking game, watch older 1P matches as they are different from the "explosive" 1P played today. Buy 1P books and practice concepts and shots. Get a good nights sleep before you play.

But the reality is he will soon learn whatever new ideas you try on him. That's why it's tough to get up on someone you play regularly. They know your game and you know their game.
