One Pocket - Tricky Shot

Nick B, I just can't see that ever being good shot selection... If you're an inch or two off either way you're selling a bank on the 15, a bank on the 1, (each of which can lead to running some balls, or even if you hit it exactly as diagrammed it's just a nothing shot and you're giving opp a chance to better his position and leave you in a worse spot.

Against a nobody (like me) this shot might be fine to just buy time, but playing anyone who can play at all this is just a bad shot.

Revised: Nothing shot that won't better your situation even if you hit it perfect, and has potential to sell out a lot.

Of course this is just my opinion.

I see what your saying but I just prefer it to kicking the back of the 10 etc. I would suggest you try my shot five times and the play it from there. The 15 only really banks well from a magic angle. Anything else is really tough to avoid hitting cueball on the way back etc. Get the cueball close to the 15 makes it even harder and covers the one.

Both the 15 and 1 are not as easy as people think on a real table. On the PC we all play perfect. Avoid double kisses and get through gaps that are only a ball and a bit wide.

My shot may look passive to most but from there your opponent does not have much offense to execute and should they get stupid give you the advantage in this game.

So let's just say I hit it good and get close to the 15. What is my opponent going to do to me?

I played around with this last night for just a short period of time. I didn't read all the responses, so if I am repeated someone else's suggestion,oh well.

I found if the 10 is not at least 1/2 ball off the head rail, it is hard to bank the ball back into the stack. Less than that it is hard to beat the kiss.

Low english seems the best for beating the kiss. Follow the balls collided.

Placing the 10 ball in the position you've shown and banking the ball back into the stack is not a good shot. In order to bank it at any speed possible to BREAK into the stack and push balls to your side, you have to hit the CB with too much force. The cue ball runs wild and will not stay in the position you want.

I suggest you look for other options.

Did you try hitting the rail first, kick banking the 10 ball into the stack? When I mentioned earlier to bank the 10 into the stack I said leave the cue ball on the back rail but failed to mention kick-banking the 10 to do that.

No, I didn't. But, the location of the 10 doesn't look like you can get a ball behind it to do so.

If kicked, it looks like the 10 will come up short. If you do not get the CB up the rail far enough, you may sell out the 10 for the opponent to bank in his hole.

I just think trying to bank this shot leaves too many chances for error and not enough gain for the chance you take. Good shot to practice though to improve your limitations..;)

I often practice shooting shots just like this (numerous time) only to prove to myself, that it is a shot that is not worth taking in a tournament or a gambling match. Sometimes you can suprise yourself with substantial improved consistency and make a difficult shot part of your arsenal.
