"26. If five or more balls (the last balls on the table) are past the head string, they are spotted. If eight or more balls are past the side pockets (the last balls on the table), they are spotted."

This is from the "Grady's Rules - ONE POCKET" web page.

Does anyone play like this? I've never seen this done, nor heard of it. I'm also new to the game (been playing a few weeks seriously, and won my first good sum of money the other night).

Also, does anyone have any good links to web based advice (or any of their own) on fighting for the last ball or the last two? I've been viewing videos and stuff, but it's hard to find a whole lot of information on this. Or, does anyone have some good advice on back pocket 9 ball?

Thanks.

I have never heard of that rule of play but, it seems that it could speed up the game a bit...I guess the rule takes in effect once the last player makes his/her move...

Thanks. I've peeked at this stuff before, but right now it's not working, and I'm mainly looking for help with the last two. That does reference some good shots though.

I run out well, and if my opponent gives me a shot I can run balls well, but since so much of the game is moving, I'm at a disadvantage knowledge wise. I know how to control the cue ball, but I don't know how to lock him up each time, so I'll give the better player an opportunity to do that each time. Bleh. Hopefully a few more weeks and my speed will jump a few more balls.

I sometimes play in a weekly one pocket tourney at Mr. Cues and they have a similar rule. Its a single elimination tourney, and at any point during the game if 10 balls or more are above the side pockets, then they are all spotted. It takes some of the strategy out of the game IMO, but they have to keep things going so that the tourney doesnt take 2 days.

If you want great advice on the game (all aspects of it) I highly recommend Accu-Stats with Billy Incardona commentating along with one of the other great one pocket players. My personal choice is Danny D. but Grady also commentated with Billy.

I don't want to give Bill a big head, :) but IMHO I think he is one of the great minds of one pocket and nothing any book can print to you will be nearly as effective as actually watching the play and listening to these great commentators.

It will boost your game 10 fold!
