I was reading the SVB vs Neils thread and I was wondering why noone mentioned Chin Shun Yang, who drilled Orcollo in what was touted as the best of the best money players matching up.
Now SVB is said to be unstoppable, well there is no better guy to put him up against in a long 9-ball or 10-ball match then the winner of the last epic battle, Yang
It would be great if TAR or someone else could set up a ongoing King of the Hill Challenge match series where the winner of the last match stays to play the next match. Some money could be added, whatever the PPV money and advertising could manage, and charge a entry to the two invited players. So if $15,000 is added to the match charge each player $5,000 for a total purse of $25,000, winner takes all.
Make the game 10-ball to neutralize the streakiness (and because it will likely be the dominant game in 10 years), and make it race to 60 over a weekend (to max out the PPV).
To actually do this would really show us something as to who the best really are. As a King of the Hill format where the winner stays and keeps playing matches as long as he keeps winning a player could really show themselves to be dominant.
To make sure a player is worthy of a match you could look at various factors, the winner of the WPC should be an automatic invite to play in a match in the next month or 2 against the Action Champ, the US Open winner as well, as long as they want to put up the $5,000. Otherwise players that want in could also show something via matches, such as Orcollo simply taking on all comers and winning previous to his match with Yang.
Done well this could really work, it would be a heck of alot better format then the random matches the IPT keep throwing out there. Maybe the IPT should in fact look at something like this instead. The key is to get the two top players into the first match, and then from there the winner of that match takes on the next challenger every 3 months or so. Take the best of Taiwan, the best of the Phillipines, the best of Europe, the best of America, ect... and have the champ stay on and take on all comers from all over the world.
