Pay to be a "club member" ???

I want no part of that at all.

Perhaps charge for the AZBTV feature as well as other features on the site, but to become a "club member"? I only see problems on the horizon and conflicts of interest when problems arise between non-paying and paying "club members".

I joined this site in 2000 because I enjoyed communicating with pool players, not to join a "club". Logging out - I want no part of this.

is your issue a problem with donations, or an issue of the use of the word "club"? another forum i use has the same or similar software and has something like "$CONTRIBUTOR$" in the same yellow banner that says "club member" here. the way i view it, i have been using azbilliards for probably close to 10 years now, and it has remained by far the best website for pool and is better than any printed publication IMO. over the last few years it has risen to the top of discussion forums, while mostly maintaining political neutrality and avoiding "cliques".

i am proud to support azbilliards, and i hope it never goes away and continues to grow. i fully expect that someday mike howerton will be elected to the BCA hall of fame for service to the industry. Warren..

I have no problem with someone who doesn't see any benefit to contributing, can't afford to contribute or just doesn't want to. They are still members of the site and they have just as much to say as anyone else.

Members will not receive any immunity from a ban and will have their money happily refunded if something happens and they are banned.

The avatar size limits were brought back down to 200 x 200, but people who had already set on that was larger still have their larger avatars until they upload a new one. The large ones are a little much.

The intent of my post seems to have gotten a little sidetracked....
#1 I have no problem supporting the site, if it is needed to keep it afloat.
It is my understanding that this is a buissness that generates a profit for its owners. Like most forums I assume that they get paid by compainies to advertise and get a kickback each time a user clicks a banner... the fac that the forum exist isnt the main attarction..there could easliy be videos posted (i.e Break.com) or content (ESPN)... the actuall content of the page is secondary... what ever is posted serves the purpose of drawing viewers.. and veiwers make sales for the advertisers...generating profit for the sites' owners by increseing the rate they charge for ad space.

#2 Assuming that I am somewhat correct in my above statment, then Mike is just offereing a product for sale as means of generating more cash flow. If thsat is the case.. I wil pass.. 35 bones for big avatar just aint my bag. Now if it was to come with exclusive tangible benifits, such as chats with pros, insider info,.. whatever.. then I would spend some cash.. happily, mind you.

otherwise its kinda like slipping the sportscaster on the local news an extra 20 for no reason......

The real question is how much are you willing to pay for me to remove MY avatar? :)

Can I trade in large avatars for LONGER pms? Like unlimited length pms - why is there a limit?

The 1500 character limit is ANNOYING - please Mike, longer PMs.

And no guys and girls I am NOT in favor of unlimited P.M.S. :-)

Yeah, what he said ....................LONGER PM's

I constantly find myself sending PM's in parts like Pm part 1, 2 and 3. 1500 characters is not enough.

Dont get me wrong.. I see a lot of promise with the "club" thing...

But right now...35 bucks for a big avatar, and a chance to enter a drawing to have a chance to maybe win something.......meh..??

Give me some exclusive content.. much like ESPNInsider, or the premium boards on Scout.com....you do that and I am all over it..but for now I will just use the 35 bones to pay my table time.

Well to make it simple, AZHouse Pro said about the Club Membership thing, " This paid membership is not in any way required. It is just a way for those who are interested to help support the site".

I too view it as a way of supporting something many enjoy, have for their enjoyment, pleasure, and information.

i just think the "club member" banner needs to be changed. one because it looks naff, and two because it brings negative connotations and implications that there is some 'exclusive club' or something that makes those part of it in some way more important. blackjack alluded to this when he said he thinks he can foresee future problems with it, and a sort of line being drawn between the members.

by the way there is all this talk about the cost of 35 dollars for a year blah blah blah, you can just pay for a month if you want for a paltry 3.95. i spent more than that on my all day bus ticket today and then promptly chucked it in the bin by mistake lol. 35 dollars is not the only option.

I understand what you are saying. Hopefully they can take the info in this thread and use it to improve the site

Well that is the hope BP... Like I said, I am not oppossed to a membership... I just want a ROI...

DP....I swear that avatar is getting bigger..........
Not that I am worried.... I propose a retort to your public ultimatium...

I warn you, if forced, I will fire back with an avatar that you and only you will be blamed for.. the wrath of the board will fall upon you with a force you have never seen!!!!

4 bucks just might be worth it :D
