To quote Mike, "This paid membership is not in any way required. It is just a way for those who are interested to help support the site. "

Nuff Said.

Pay to be a "club member" ???

I want no part of that at all.

Perhaps charge for the AZBTV feature as well as other features on the site, but to become a "club member"? I only see problems on the horizon and conflicts of interest when problems arise between non-paying and paying "club members".

I joined this site in 2000 because I enjoyed communicating with pool players, not to join a "club". Logging out - I want no part of this.

Ok BlackJack - then donate $35 silently. How many lives have you influenced by the ability of you being able to add to your knowledge here on this site? How many lessons in 9-ball have you given & enriched a player due to your signature tag & link to your lessons?

In the beginning, I had my 'differences' with Mike H. However, over the past two years (after I grew up a bit) I have come to respect him greatly for what he has done & what he has accomplished. I hope he doesn't mind that I would call him a 'friend'.

I have no doubts that with the $35 membership fees, Mike will make this site greater & the pool world will be better off somehow.

Nothing has changed, not one thing to affect what you have been doing. The little yellow label could say "donated" instead of "club member". Or it could say "rack-em". What difference does it make to you?

Nobody has changed, no messages are getting filtered, you still see everything. You are still a member of AZ billiards just like everyone else.

Dont get me wrong.. I see a lot of promise with the "club" thing...

But right now...35 bucks for a big avatar, and a chance to enter a drawing to have a chance to maybe win something.......meh..??

Give me some exclusive content.. much like ESPNInsider, or the premium boards on Scout.com....you do that and I am all over it..but for now I will just use the 35 bones to pay my table time.

To me the money is giving something back, to help support the forum. Remember, nothing is free and addtional funding can only help make the forum a better place to be!!!!;)

For those who can not afford to contribute, nothing has changed, and in my opinion, I do not look at anyone differently. But for those who can afford the membership and use the forum on a regular basis it is a small price to pay, the returns from payment are not a factor to me.

Have a good day!!!!

No need to add anything to that. Good post. Giving something back is what IT is all about.

I like the idea of being able to help out the boards, but I hate the large avators for people that pay. Makes the boards harder to read imho, and will ultimately make it used less.

Went to pay, and noticed that was one of the "features" and changed my mind for now. Going to wait and see just how bad it gets since there are other forums to read.

Just my thoughts....

Ok I have to comment. That attitude I don't understand. I am positive that no one from az made this a requirement. What gets me is how many people run up to the bar when they get something for free. But in no way do they want to help to support something that they themselves enjoy, and get benefit out of. This reminds me alot of the TAR situation!

cubswin, changing your Avatar size is an option. You don't have to do it.

In fact, I have been considering making mine smaller again. I'll probably do that after I stare at it for a few days.

Right now, because its different I like the BIG Avatar. After more people get them (and I hope they do) then more than likely most will reduce theirs again just as I plan to.

Or everyone will get a huge one, and reading these boards will get tougher. I'm waiting and watching. Not like the club is going anywhere after all. I've had memberships in lots of forums online, mostly to support the places. The ones I've liked the most I did because they didn't really offer much as an incentive, like here. Just wish that wasn't one of the incentives.

Well, you could always sign-up now and make a statement by not enlarging your Avatar. This would probably encourage others to follow your lead.

BIG AVATAR - BAD IDEA
LONGER PMs - GREAT IDEA

Mike (Az Mike),

People use the PM system as a replacement for email. 1500 characters is not enough. It can't be a space issue as a PM has to take up far less space than a single image. PLEASE make the pms longer - in fact why limit them at all? If people can write ten pages in a post then why not allow them to do so in a PM?

Thank you,

John Barton

I'm waiting to see how the "club member" thing evolves.

Will being a club member get you immunity from being banned? :D

I think BlackJack realizes how a church treats its' members that don't donate to the plate each week.

Don't worry, I am confident that Mike H. won't get like that.

How did the club thing slip past me si all I want to know ? I went to DCC for a few days and I'll swear this is the first thread about the club that I have read or seen. I'm still out of work and on a strict budget so I will prolly have to wait on joining but I don't know where to look at the cost or to join.-----Leonard whos in the dark-------

OH maybe it's because I only have eleven greenies instead of twelve

There is a sticky thread, the very first entry on the 'Main Forum' page.

The club only started a couple of days ago and all the joining info and instructions you need are in that thread in idiot-proof format, as is obvious from this technophobe's ability to navigate it easily:)

I found this post to be very surprising. Blackjack is a cool guy and always found myself agreeing with him, except on this.

Like others have said... He advertises his pool lessons on this board and has been coming her since 2000... And he is going to get upset that there is a volunteer membership? WTF?

If this helps supports the site, or even puts a little cash in Mikes pocket, who should be mad about that??? He started a web site that has become the most popular pool related forum and deserves to profit from it.

Very surprised by that post.

I have no problem with someone who doesn't see any benefit to contributing, can't afford to contribute or just doesn't want to. They are still members of the site and they have just as much to say as anyone else.

Members will not receive any immunity from a ban and will have their money happily refunded if something happens and they are banned.

The avatar size limits were brought back down to 200 x 200, but people who had already set on that was larger still have their larger avatars until they upload a new one. The large ones are a little much.

Mike
