Hi guys,

I want to ask opinions for cheap & good Jump / Breaks, I'm intending to get one as a gift for a friend. My budget is $100 or less.

I have been looking at some brands and the one that has struck me the most is the J&J J/B, to which another AZer has also said is pretty good.

Anyone out there with an opinion on the J&J J/B, or can offer advice about other ones? Kindly also include the specs of the recommended cue if possible, and how it compares to say, the Sledge or the Pred.

thanks!!!

Did you ?

Post about the same thing on CCB. I don't want to
repeat myself if I don't have to ... lol

Hmm.....what is CCB?

I started a similar thread in the "Wanted / For Sale" section but that was not for opinions, just asking if anyone were selling J/Bs.

thanks,
ray

Yea Ray I was wondering the same thing. I saw some JJs on ebay and they were pretty cheap.

Hey Brent, hows it goin.

Yea this other AZer told me that they have a water buffalo tip on it, the shaft taper is pretty thick, and it breaks good with it. What I wanna know, is how good it jumps.

Personally, I use a sledge and I wouldn't trade anything for it....but lately I've heard that the cheaper J/Bs aren't too shabby either.

I hope finals are going good for you!

Hey Zestyfool,

Thanks for the info but Igme is selling a jump cue, whereas I'm looking for a Jump / Break.

Igme's selling for $85 with JPs and shipping, and I honestly think that's a pretty swell deal.

thanks,
ray

CCB is Cue Chalk Board on the Billiards Digest website, another forum.
Here is my reply to about the same question asked over there.

Funny, you should ask. I do plan on getting an XBreaker later
on, but I got to bidding on a J&J break/jump on Ebay, and made
a winning bid with 3 hours left, and noone overbid me, so I won it for $27 from Carlscues (I just want to say I had excellent service from Carlscues). The Total was $44.90 with shipping and insurance. It was shipped to me right away, and received in timely fashion. I was impressed with the quality of the cue right away, and still am. Mine is a normal 4 pointer with Palmwood forearm with darker stained bottom (not sure of hardwood type though). It has quick
release joints (really like), a short(1/2") break/jump ferrule with a phenolic tip. I find the taper of the shaft to be very good for breaking or jumping, very solid feel to it. It breaks good, I think (played 44 yrs), and has that
'snap' when you hit the balls with good action. The edges of the phenolic tip hold chalk okay, but the center does not very well, so you have to break and jump pretty much center ball for accuracy sakes. I haven't jumped too much with it, but I was going over both balls when I did ... lol so it jumps just fine too, I have to fine tune my jumps more. My other jumper I have is a Scorpion jumper that I have been used to. I know I got a heck of a deal on it off Ebay (most sell for $10-25 more than mine on Ebay), and just a personal thing I do when I get a bargain is to determine what I would say it's worth is, and I have decided that, IMO, it is a $225 value in terms of quality. I have not seen the butterfly ones in person, but they look pretty neat, and should have about the same quality. www.Erikleecues.com
sells J&J butterfly break/jumps for $70 new.
I have had mine about 6-7 weeks, and I am very pleased with it.

I have a j&j jump/break cue with the Phenolic tip and ferrule. Got it for $50 on e-bay.

Best "dollar for value" purchase I ever made. The thing hits a ton.

im new to pool, never played a jumpshot of my life, and when i was going to order the j&j, a friend who had the same, gave me his to test and show how u jump. It took me 2 tries, and i was JUMPING like a rabbit. Love the cue, looks nice , 3 different models to chose from, cheap, what more do u want. YES its a greath cue. If i can jump with it in 2 tries, everyone can. GO for it.

I had a J&J j/B that got stolen, and I now have a sledgehammer (McDermott butt). IMO, the J&J worked just as well both jumping and breaking. I suppose it'll probably warp sooner, but I could live with that. I think the J&J's with two quick release joints are a good deal.

if u wonder how there cheap playcue's are, ill be able to tell u in a week.

i ordered this one: http://www.jjcue.com/images/D060.JPG :D i dont expect much from it, but u never know. they only cost 58$ :D hart to go very wrong with it.

but the true reason why u should buy the j&j: I can jump with it !!!! really u dont need any more prove. :p ive been trying for LONG time to jump with a housecue, and NEVER EVER jumped, with this one, straight perfect jump 9/10. The cue does all the work really. and it costs 1/5th of a sledgehammer. What more do u need? a sign that says: FREE IPT invitation for every j&j bought?

and about the "snap" scott told u about, i even got afraid i would brake the balls when i smacked up a pack at full force. It feels like u are exploiding them. it gives me a easily 30-40% more power then a housecue, or maybe it the snap that gives me that impression :d but i love it.

breaker

about three weeks ago i picked up 2 fury j/b from joerackem on ebay, for the money about 120.00 each with joint protectors i am very pleased with the cue for breaking as well as jumping. I am still going through a little of the learning process on c/ball control but i think that can be expected as this is my first phenolic tip-ferrell combo.

I just got a JJ jump break for my father and I from JJcue.com. Great service and and price, I think it was 85 dollars I believe but the guy hooked me up cheaper then that. The cues I have have a all black
phenolic ferrul and tip all one piece, takes chalk real well all over and breaks pretty hard. I snapped the 9 ball in three times in the first 20 mins of just breaking with it.

Love the cue and I highly recommend it!

Which model did you order with both the phenolic tip and ferrule? That's what I'm looking for, but the website isn't very specific.

I would like to ask a question, is it better to have a break cue to break with rather then just a normal cue, cause i don't have one myself i just use a bar cue to break with on league nights, but a teammate of myne has a predator break cue that everyone uses. Cause after reading this thread making me want to purchase one of my own. So is a waste of money to buy one or would it be worth it. Thanks. Cole.
