Opinions Needed For Viking Tour

I am loooking for suggestions / ideas from the group on what you think we (The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour) can do to make our tour events better.

Of course more money always comes up so let's try to leave that one out of the suggestion box for the moment.

All opinions/ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

Mj

P.S. I won't be able to check this or respond until next Monday.

A few 8ball tournaments like you had a couple years ago would be nice. As I don't know about anyone else here but playing 9ball on bar boxes just seems silly to me.

I would have to agree ,some 8 ball tournaments would be nice, thats my game of choice .Hell, I might even buy a tour card and try some 9 ball :)

My suggestion would be as always....more tourneys in N E Tenn. ....or how about any tourneys here.....I sent you 2 great rooms info and you never contacted either of them......and both rooms would provide prolly 50 + entries minimum.

SO ADD MORE TOURNEYS IN EAST TENNESSEE IS MY SUGGESTION. :D :D

Even a One day amateur tourney here would be great? Janet Atwell is the only pro that plays around here.....except for Joe Blackburn, who doesnt play anymore.....so an amateur tourney would draw the same amount or more entries as well

Mike,

I think you need to look at three things
1) What the fans want. (I like 9,8 and 10 ball, many like 1P,Banks)
2) What the players want ( I might work up the guts to try 8 or 10 ball)
3) What the room owners want ( This is the most important to you right? The question then is what do their customers want.)

Some of the game choices seem to be regional (ex.- 10-ball in Mississippi and the southern US in general).
An offering of different tournament formats to room owners?
Could you do like the Georgia event in other places?

Mike ...

You seem to be a very conscientious and try hard to
stay well versed on what your tour members want,
I just want to commend for that.

Now ... Enter a brave new world, set a precedent, and put
the C back in competition. Play rotational 8 ball (or Dakota 8 ball as I
call it). It is a much more challenging game. It will give the better
players something to shoot for, and something different. This is the game
that the pros should be playing. I would like to see a TD step out and
offer it in a tour.

A tournament in Indianapolis!!!!!!! There are a tremendous number of good players in Indiana; but no big tournaments in which to compete.

Sounds good to me

I have to admit a tournament in Knoxville or the surrounding area would be a decent draw. TK has his tournaments in Sevierville, about 20 miles south of Knoxville. It's a nice room with 9 ft Diamonds but he rarely gets a decent field. The last decent tournament in Knoxville had 55-60 players from around the area. Just my .02

Run another Southern Classic Open like you did in Oct. It was a great success and the players hunger for the DCC style play. And of course MORE $$ ADDED! Cues II is the only running open tour events from now to Apr. You might consider sticking something in between in ATL.

a few suggestions:

1. Do not have Matt Janis play in a tournament he is supposed to be directing. He's a good kid, just easily distracted by all of the demand by players, spectators and room owners. It is also not good to be in the middle of a match then have to go and run the tournament. Its not fair to that persons opponent(s). He needs to stay focused and adhere to the needs of the business of running a tournament.

2. Start the tournaments at 10 am. By the time the TD arrives at the tournament location, sets up shop, get the players to sign up, have a calcutta, set up a tournament chart and finally get the matches going it 5pm in the afternoon and everyone including spectators have been sitting around for 4-5 hours before the first match starts.

3. Any Viking tournament that has 40 or less players should be completed in one day not two. I realize you and the room owner want to keep players spending money at that establishment, but most of the players have other things to do with their lives and dragging a small tournament into 2 days is just too much.

4. Get rid of the calcutta altogeter. It just burns up too much time. Only have a calcutta with the top 25% of the field. I know you make money from this, but the time being burned up is just too valuable.

I would think this is the kind of information you are looking for. Thanks for reading. I hope you will take this into consideration. I enjyoy playing in Viking tour events and especially the tour finalies.....

Hey Mike,
All I ask of the Viking Tour is to bring the 3 event format back to Atlanta.
Hope to see you guys soon.

how about 8-ball. chicago area has a rather large leauge following. I think 8 ball would do well might be in demand after IPT gets televised.

I am hopefull that 8-ball events will get better as the IPT gets more recognition. However, at this time the 8-ball events that I have been monitoring are still sluggish just as they have been in the past.

We have experimented with some 8-ball events in the past on the Viking Tour and I am sure we will try again.
