Opinions on APA 7 Speed

Okay, so here's the thing...

Last night I played another SL6, so 5-5 race...Now, I consider myself a pretty strong 6, the other guy is up there as well. I played one defense the whole match, he played about five. I ended up beating him 5-0 in 13 innings. Here's the funny part, he and his whole team were crying and b1tch1ng about me being a 6...I surely don't think I am 7 material, what do you guys think? I do usually shoot this well or better when I play.

I think it's impossible to tell based on what you just posted. They were just *****ing and moaning because they're sore losers.

Ultimately, you are scored on how you play.Which is directly related to the level of talent you are up against. The deeper the talent the harder the wins.

IMO,its not whether are you a sl7 or not...its whether or not you are a sl7 for your area.

Sounds to me like you might be fwiw.....certainly,if you keep beating sixes at that rate, you will be.

If you beat him 5-0, they shouldn't cry about anything. If you were a 7, you still beat him. Race would have been 5-4, and he still got whipped. Heck, you could have been an 10 vs a 6, and you still won.

Some 6s match up well against each other. I can't say whether you should be a 7 or not from one match score. Keep playing hard and see if the league jacks you up.

I've lost 5-0 to someone who I think I play even with or slightly better than, in the long run. I have no idea about APA speeds though.

+ 1 for sour grapes. :D

I'm a 6 and we play both 9 ball and 8 ball on the same night. I have been playing the ghost like crazy and I played a 5 in 9 ball and played lights out to win 6-0

I played a different 5 in 8 ball and I made two bad decisions that saw and early 8 ball loss and a scratch on an 8 and I ended up losing hill hill.

Us sixes are just more inconsistent than sevens.

keep shooting like that or better and they will move you up to a 7! Sounds like they are just little babies and are crying because you embarrassed there best player. It use to be like that for me to until I became a 7 but they will always find something to cry about no matter what you SL is.

I think I'm going to go home and have a beer.

As opposed to ....? Not shooting this well when you don't play? Shocking!

Fred <~~~ I don't make or miss a ball when I don't play

The trend seems to me that if you live in a highly populated area where your league is bigger than most, it does apply to being say a 6 or 7.
For instance, I live in WA. St. where the base population is lower. Im a 7.
But if I lived on the east coast, maybe I would be a 6. Just a theory.

Oh, btw, the answer is, "NO."

Even if every match went this way for the rest of your life, you wouldn't go up to an SL-7. You need to average (average of your best games, yada yada) less than 10 innings TOTAL as an SL-6 to be in contention of going to an SL-7. That is, you need a few 5, 6 and 7 inning matches for them to even think about moving you up.

That's the problem with the "raise by committee" concept. Too many people have no idea what it really takes to move someone up. They think that beating their team hotshot is all it takes.

That makes sense, we have a few of the "super 7's" , as someone else has mentioned, around here, so that's what I think of when I think 7, and I'm nowhere near their level.

This is very true!! It's funny too because they just won the trip to Vegas:rolleyes:

Fred, I meant that this wasn't just a good night.

Thanks for the opinions everyone...I'm pretty modest about my shooting ability, and don't really think I'm ready to be seven yet. Just asking around to see what the norm was.

Fred: thanks for the info about even being considered for an SL7.

I'm sorry but I don't play APA, but I wouldn't even sweat the fact what your opponent thinks of your play. Accept that you played well, and if you practiced more could more and more consistent and be a 7 all day.

One question, How come there isn't a SL8 or higher? Is it because the team limit is so low?

It is based on innings ...and I agree with several other posters on this thread ...you won't have to worry about being a six for long ...

if you played as a 7 and won theyd want you to be an 8,9,10 ect. these kind of people are never happy.

Frank was absolutely correct. 2 net innings per win or better to move to a 7 in your best 10 of your last 20 matches to move to a 7. Net meaning subtract the defence innings before figuring the average. With your 13 innings and 1 defence that would be a 2.4 average, or a 6 skill level. You shot right where you should to be a 6. Like one of the others said, these guys are just sore losers.

I think that whenever somebody happens to have a good night the opposition will always cry that he is a sandbagger and should be rated higher. Funny thing is that when somebody has a bad night nobody cries that they're playing too high.
I think 7 speed in the APA is a hugely wide rating. It is like the heavy-weight division in boxing, there are minimum qualifications but no maximum. Maybe you do meet the minimum qualifications, but I'd avoid becoming a 7 as long as I could.

If you polished off a 6 in 13 innings despite his 5 safeties, and that wasn't an unusually good night for you, then you're probably 7 material. It's hard to say for sure without seeing you play, the stat line suggests you're probably 7 material.

Having said that, I went up to a 7 within the last year, and I've discovered that that and $4 will buy you a beer.

Definitely agree there! Case in point, a guy I know just went up to a 7 a couple sessions ago. While he was a 6 I could beat him fairly easy (never went to the hill), and now that he's a 7, it's pretty much the same...

I do want to become a 7 eventually, but not because everyone is whining....I want my game to actually be there.
