Opinions on Joss and Pechauer Cues

Stumbled across "The Billiards Warehouse" in Houston yesterday and stopped by to see what they had.

Found that they had a great selection of Pool Hall furniture and Tables with some real sweet ones to drool at.

What interested me most though was that for the first time in a long time, I found somewhere where I could take cues off the rack and hit a few balls to compare the feel etc.

I've always had a soft spot for Meucci, ever since I picked up a friends cue a few years back and played in a tourny which I won. However, the Meucci's I picked up yesterday all had wobbles in them and the sales guy tried to explain to me that you will never find a cue without a wobble.

Out of interest, I picked up a Joss and a Pechauer. They both hit real nice, and the best thing was that I proved to the sales guy that you can purchase a cue that is free of wobble. They both roled and sited perfect and to be honest, this is the first time I have ever picked up either brand of cue and hit balls with them. I was very impressed.

What thoughts / opinions are out there on Joss and Pechauer?

Great cues for the money. They've paid their dues in the cuemaking world. I think Joss is one of the best values on the market - nice designs for very reasonable money. Pechauer is a little more expensive, but again, worth the money.

Pechauer cues have a habit of the butt caps breaking. I would buy the JOSS over the Pechauer. I am not surprised at all that all the Meucci's had a wobble. There quality has gone downhill bigTime.

I would also seriously question the Integrity of the salesperson who told you that all cues had a wobble.

Are you sure about this?

Has anyone addressed this with Jerry? I've owne a few Pechauers in the past, and never had a problem with any of his cues, but that's just me.

same here - never heard of that and i have 1 pechauer and know a couple of guys who play with them too!

Under what conditions would the butt caps break? Breaking with the butt end?

I know of at least 5 cues that the butt cap developed hairline cracks near the bottom and within a couple of weeks the crack would work its way up to the butt sleeve. The strange thing abouts this is that the 5 people are all from the same area. I know all of them and they had taken good care of there cues so this issue was not from missuse. Maybe it was just some defective material. I do not know. One note for Pechauer, One of the guys called them and they replaced the buttcap, However he had to pay for shipping and wait 12 weeks. But Pechauer did fix it.

Joss

I have never hit with a pechauer, but I do play with a Joss and have for about 2 years. My next one will be a Joss also. In the last few months I had Tom at triple cross make me a new shaft and it hits great. Just my opinion.

I think the Joss cues are a good value for the money and if you like predator or OB-1 shafts you can buy one and it will fit without any modifications.

same

same goes for the Pechauer's!!!!!!!!

Come On Guys!

I am a Joss distributor and I can get you the best deal in town. Just to my Az friends. I just got a COM exact copy at 60" with 2 -
12.75 mm shafts. Great hitting cue. I know Dan and am a believer. I also own a Joss cue that belonged to Jim Rempe. It plays sweet also.

I had an older Joss and the butt would crack and sometimes break if you hit the cue moderatel hard on the ground. The rubber in the butt was somewhat soft and would expand quite a bit if hit on the ground. The rubber was inside the butt so the expansion of the rubber would crack the butt.

I have a pechauer and have never had a problem with the butt cracking. I still have it and it's a great cue! I'm currently using a Jacoby and I use it because it's custom made for me.

Big hit difference between the two cues! I like them both but you definitely have to get used to each one.

Purdman, Judging by that avatar, that hair and that outfit, I'd say you and I must be just about the same age.

I have both a joss and a pechauer. hands down, I prefer the pechauer over the joss. the taper and feel of the peach just suits me better...

just an old shooter who's shot with a lot of cues personal opinion. :)

Dan Janes Is Pretty Cool

I have two (2) Joss cues that I play with regularly . . . they are consistent hitters, good quality and offer a lot of bang for the buck . . . both are several years old and have had zero issues - perfect finish, no cracks, straight and true.

I've also hit Pechauer's and have several friends who own 'em - they really talk 'em up and enjoy what Jerry creates. I noticed a small difference in the hit between the Joss and the "peach" . . . and they have a little more of a unique look, but not much over the Joss.

Custom cues are cool and all, and they are "custom" - I mean what YOU WANT is WHAT YOU SHOULD GET with a custom. But for me, some of the better "production" cues are so good for so little, that I'm hard pressed to see where another several hundred to invest in a custom is gonna elevate my game. Maybe some day, but as of now I'd be proud to own either of the two master builders mentioned above . . .

I have also never heard of this problem with Pechauers. I have had both cues and I prefer the Pechauers, but both are great cues for the money.

12/08/1949, Vintage year my friend. The trunk of the MG is full of black Paki. I had to use a crow bar to open it.
