Opinions on Joss cues

I just picked up a Joss cue tonight model Jos26, a guy i know had it, but eye'd one of my Espiritu cues, and started to shoot with it, and really liked it. So in turn, he asked how much i wanted, and i said i would take his Joss in trade. So the deal was made.

Now i played with the Joss for about 90mins and it hits really nice, fairly stiff. The only weird part is the shaft feels like a log cuz its alot thicker than my Espiritu that i still have and use. The weight of the cue probably made a big difference cuz it felt like a 18oz, when i use 19oz. Which can easily be changed.

But if in the end i end up not liking how it plays, i can always use the cue for breaking lol.

Just curious as to what people think about how a Joss plays. I know some people who use them and really like them, and then others who cant stand them, cuz they hit like a log, with the thick shafts.

I used one for years and absolutely loved the way it hits. Very similar to a Schon, one of the more stiffer hitting cues. IMO, I think it's the best production cue there is. I really like their stock shafts as well.

It all boils down to personal preference.

I personally think a Joss, Schon and Espiritu all play pretty similar, with the Espiritu maybe being the most limber of the three...just my experience is all.

You probably have a 13.25 mm shaft diameter...that's the stock size that Joss uses...

I have one of their custom line cues made back from the late 80's early 90's. and you are right it hits very similiar to a Schon.

I will agree with Shorty that the Joss plays very similar to my Espiritu, but has a bit stiffer hit, probably cuz of the shaft thickness.

I was also using the Joss to break with, and i could really crush the rack, while also keeping control of the CB.

But yea this cue is a keeper :)

If anything i might have the shaft taken down to 13mm to get the same feel as my Espiritu.

I hit several Joss "east" cues and they sucked: lots of vibration accompanied the hit.

As to the Jost "west" ones, I've never hit with any.

I have a schon and when I first got it I preferred a 12.75 mm 314 shaft on it. I finally sent the schon shaft away to have it trimmed down to 12.75 and that did the trick. If you make sure to keep the same taper it will retain the stiff hit with a thinner diameter. IMO it is the taper that gives it the stiff hit, but that's just me.

custom or production...

I have actually gotten pretty stingy on feel over the last few years. It is probably because I have got to hit so many kinds of cues. I am starting to believe that every cue, yes, even production cues feel a little different. I started realizing it was like golf clubs. Maybe the glue dried slightly different or whatever. All I know is no matter how many drivers I bought when my broke, (even though they were the same) they all felt different and played different.

I have felt an Action cues that really felt incredible and I would have never bet money on that. I have felt some nice high dollar cues that hit like stone.

I really like Joss for the most part. Many of those I have hit feel solid and firm. I like the custom ones a little more. I have 2 Joss cues in my collection now and they both hit fantastic, but keep in mind I did try 8 of them before buying one that I could not live without. :D
