alright everyone thanks for offering your opinions first off. Here's the deal. for a long time i've been trying to get ahold of a mezz EC-N (or BC-N). i finally found a place that has one but during my search for this model i ran into the mezz AXI-N. they look basically the same with the difference being the wavy joint.

The price is going to be about the same so i thought i'd ask everyone what they thought. if you were to pick one which would you pick? i've never tried a cue with the wavy joint and honestly i'd like to but i know i like the EC-N. what do you guys think i should get?

for me i choose axi-n, i don't know if its me, maybe because i notice most of the exceed mezz uses wavy joint(3/8x9), and that makes it something to be glad with

Hello there. I changed back to Mezz a couple of months ago. I had an affair with a Predator 4K6 with the Z-shaft for some time.

I got a great deal buying back my Z606 at a great price. I also have a ZZSP. The united joint is for me the perfect joint. I like how snug it fits the shaft to the butt. Reasuring. I haven't tried the other joint type though.

Anyway, changing back to the Mezz WD 700 shaft made me happy. It feels alive and solid. Whippy or stiff I don't care, it suits me perfectly. And it doesn't matter if I use the sneaky or the fancy one, they both hit great.

Don't think you can go wrong with either, you're in for a treat!

Poolplayer, I believe you currently use and prefer a Mezz Alpha shaft with united joint over a Mezz WD shaft with united joint ?

If so, you might want to consider the Mezz ACE line as they use a wavy joint and Alpha shaft. The Axi line has the wavy joint, but comes with the WD shaft.

I prefer the Alpha shaft over the WD on my Mezz EC with united joint. It's more forgiving.

Sounds like an itch needs scratching! Hard to beat the unitedjoint IMO.
Just never sampled the AXI, but curious.. Either way it's easy to resale.

The Wavy joint does have me curious. Mezz having the 2 different joint types makes you think it offers some kind of difference. I already know I prefer the Alpha shaft, so the ACE line is more interesting to me than the Axi.

actually i like the alpha more too. i was planning on getting the alpha with the axi instead of the wd

one thing ive notice with united joint mezz and wavy, most of the united joint mezz has forward balance and most of the shaft weighs more than 4oz simply because the united joint itself is really heavy, while the wavy shaft has a lighter shaft, this is maybe because its more of natural weight, im more of a SW user so more backward balance is better, im not saying all cues would have same characteristic, kind of wood may change it, but which ever cue you'll get i think you will be happy

I own a mezz ec-7 wmb with wd 700 shaft and united joint.... I just love the way the united joint screws together so tightly , it gives the cue a very solid feeling ! i reckon that the united joint provides a firmer hit compared to the wooden wavy....
About the shaft, I can only tell you that the wd 700 feels like a normal maple shaft but isn't even close to a 314-2 deflection-wise... I believe that the alpha shaft deflects less but it as some odd feeling due to the fiber core, but if you are ok with it i suggest you to stick with that
I also wanna try the alpha or the hyper alpha for a second shaft ...

i don't know if im going to be laughed at or others will be angry at me, but everytime i hear that united joint has the tight feel, i laugh because i remember few years back when we pulled united joint off a shaft, its just plastic that makes it tight and if you see the united joint(female), your reaction would be WTF!, me and my cuemaker friend laugh and say genius trick!

I love my old 404 with the United. Goes together taught. I guess i'm missing the plastic in mine. Hmmmm???

Just played with a Mezz Ace which has the wavy joint like the Axi. It definitely has a softer hit and feel compared to my Mezz EC with united joint.

Great feeling and playing cue. I still like the united joint with alpha shaft. It's really just a matter of preference. My wife liked the softer hit/feel of the wavy joint over the united. She has a tendency to over hit so the softer feel worked well for her.
