Hi Everyone!

I was hoping to get some feedback on my friend's work. His name is Sean Delavar. He is an avid pool-player and loves pool (just like many of us). :)

He takes a picture or image and manually enhances it by hand (pencil). In my opinion, they look great. He's been doing these for the locals here with a lot of good feedback and praise.

I look forward to passing on your feedback to Sean.

Enjoy!

Best Regards,
Abe - i4pool

These are nice, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I guess I don't really like the practice of taking a photo, tweaking it with a plug-in filter which takes about 2 seconds (there are hundreds available), and then pronouncing it as original artwork.

I know in this case you said he enhanced it manually with pencil, but clearly he used a digital filter first (but the effect is the same, regardless.)

I'd much rather have either a photograph or an illustration/painting.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I should have titled it differently... used a different word other than "artwork". I see your point. I believe his work is still nice even if it's not 100% original. He puts his own touch on it making it unique in its own way. Obviously this is just my opinion and I dont really know much about art or techniques and what not but I do know when I like something. :)

Thanks again and take care!

Regards,
Abe

Prior to reading beetle's response I was thinking somewhat similar thoughts.

I can (and occasionally do) take digital photos and open them in my Photoimpact program where there are special effects such as 'charcoal pen' and 'watercolor'. These provide a very similar effect as what your friend does.

I do happen to like the effect, however, like beetle indicated, what your friend is doing is more of a remarque or an enhancement of the actual original art, in his case, photographs.

Best,
Brian kc

I do this same kind of enhancement work... the ones you've shown are nice & there is some artistic talent required to get the best from this kind of enhancement.

I like it & I do have some on walls here & there...

I do NOT like Picasso's work, but some folks think the works are worth millions of dollars. Some folk's trash is another person's treasure. We all have a nose & an opinion...

Hi ceebee,

I agree that there is some artistic talent required. I'm not artistically-inclined so I'd probably butcher an attempt to do this type of thing.
Very good point about Picasso.

Thanks ceebee and Kickin' Chicken for the feedback!

IMHO...

I like those newer ones. The second one in particular. Those are "art", as someone's talent in color and design is what produced them. As for the original post, my cell phone camera has that effect. Nothing too special, but if he's able to sell 'em, then more power to him... :indecisive:

Love the later ones, they are so much more to my taste. Will go check out the website too as I have a new pool room at home to complete with some artwork.
