Opinions: What's the best bar box cue ball?

I've tried the Aramith 2 1/4" coin op cue ball with the green S. It seems to attract chalk like crazy and does not look as shiny nor does it feel as smooth as the object balls.

Any suggestions on good high quality alternatives?

You didn't really specify if you have to use a special coin operated ball return mechanism. At my pool bar that we shoot out of during league nights, they have to open the tables, so that we can use Aramith Red dot cue balls that seem to hold up.

But, if you need to use a ball return, it my use a larger, heavier cue ball (some call it a tavern ball) that's 2 3/8 inches instead of the standard 2 1/4 inch aramith balls. It's going to change the game. A lot.

is a magnetic ball, and is about as good as you can get, if you are using a coin changer return that is using magnets. This is really the best possible scenario for a bar box, unless they have a new laser system that can also detect a cue ball, But not may local watering holes I know of will invest in that kind of equipment.

Trade up for a Diamond barbox...they can use the red circle ball and still retain the coin operation.

The tables belong to the local amusement company as does the video game, and the juke box system. The bar and the company have a contract. The company has no competition. This is Jersey--the boys run the company. You get what you get.

The Aramith 2 1/4" magnetic "green S" ball works fine in it as have other 2 1/4" magnetic cueballs. I just hate the way it gets mottled, and grungy looking, in no time. And that matte finish just doesn't look and feel right.

I figure I'll just order two 2 1/4" plugged cueballs from Mueller. I've used them for a while and they play alright.

I was just checking to see if anybody knows of a better alternative to the Aramith cue ball.

The table (Great American) can use either an oversize ball or a magnetic cue ball. I would love to use a red dot but alas the bar cannot open the table up as per contract with the amusement vendor.

Have you experienced problems with the Aramith ball getting very dirty quickly? Is there a possibility that Aramith has altered the composition to provide for a harder, shinier and less porous surface?

Not really. I have an Aramith "Measles"/US Cup ball that I practice with at home, and a red dot Aramith for our team's leage night. Both seem to hold up. Are you cleaning the balls?

Red Circle cue balls. I carry two of them (in case of scratches) and each guy on our team has at least one in his cue case.
