curious on peoples experience with cue makers for least amount of deflection without being a laminated shaft.

The new OB + shafts. I think the newest Mezz 12 mm LD shaft (WX 700 or 900???) is a solid maple shaft as well.

I'm not sure about the least deflection, but I play with a WD700 and everyone who has tried one seems to like it. Unfortunately, prices on Mezz equipment have skyrocketed, so I'm not sure that I'd recommend buying one now if you're looking for value.

Lambros maple shafts are known to be pretty low deflection and hit great. Unfortunately, you'd probably have to get a Lambros cue to go with it due to his proprietary ultra joint. Not sure if he makes shafts with standard joint threads anymore. But I do have one of his cues with the 3/8x10 flatfaced joint so there's probably a few of those floating around if anyone is willing to give theirs up.

And as a second option, I think the SS360 is laminated but I've heard those shafts hit amazing with plenty of feel while still being LD.

Meucci Pro

I haven't tried all the new stuff, but I have tried a few and have a Predator 314-2 FAT shaft, but I like the feel of my Meucci Pro shaft better than what I've tried so far.

There are two types, I think...the solid maple shaft and the laminated one...I am talking about the solid maple one.

Aloha.

The OB ones are still multi piece, just the individual pieces they use are not laminated.

Players HXT is a solid shaft with LD tip construction, also most custom cue makers that make an LD shaft make it out of solid maple. I can vouch for Mike Webb's shafts, they hit VERY good and are the same price as a Predator or OB or any of the other premium production shafts. Players is about 1/2 the price but has a great hit feel although it has more deflection than others. Mike Webb's shafts have about the same deflection properties as a Predator 2 shaft.

What is your best and most efficient bridge length that you used in the past?

Also what game do you play the most?

Musashi

Adams Musashi ACSS Pro shaft.
Low deflecton not laminated.
Hit reminds me of a pre-cat predator.

Agree with Dexter... ACCS are the most solid LD shafts I've come across. They do deflect slightly more than other shafts but make up for it with a very solid hit.

There are two technologies of choice:

A) drill a hole in the tip end of the shaft and fill it partially with a tenon to hold the ferule.

B) taper the shaft down to 11 mm or under.

The laminated versus solid is an orthogonal variable.

Both technologies achieve low mass at the tip end of the shaft--that is the only physical criterion for low deflection--low tip mass.

I don't know if I'd call it orthogonal. Dealing with natural wood grains without laminations usually means a loss of stability and warping when you get really thin and thin walled. With laminations you can really push these limits as you get less warp and more stability in doing so.

You can cut a solid shaft down to these sizes, but it's way more likely to warp and be affected by the weather than a laminate. Only a few out of a whole batch of solid shafts would hold up to such a treatment (note I'm playing with a solid shaft that does exactly that, and makes a Z2 feel chunky).

Mezz WX900. Best shaft I've played with. 12mm tip diameter and a nice taper.
Mezz makes it in all the most common pin types.

I don't know if I'd call it orthogonal.

The point was that::
You can build a solid wood LD shaft by drilling a hole in the tip,
You can buld a laminated LD shaft by drilling a hole in the tip,
You can build a solid wood LD shaft by turning it down to a small diameter,
you can build a laminated LD shaft by turning it down to a small diameter.

That looks pretty orthogonal to me.

The best you can buy is a custom CEM shaft .
CEM is a cuemaker in Germany .

Another great non-laminated LD shaft is The cuechanger , also built in Germany .

Orthogonal?
I grew up as a musician so often I focused more on art than academics, please excuse my ignorance,
What's "orthogonal"?

A lot of good suggestions I recently picked up a schon cue are any of the schon shafts better than the other older verse newer.

Kv

Kevin Varney, who, unfortunately, is no longer with us.

I had both. one of Kevin solid and one of his LD shafts.

I had no idea that he was sending me a LD shaft..

Hands down I like the solid maple shaft tons better.

Some of these LD shafts sound and hit different, almost like they are cracked or broke.
Its the sound and the hit that I don't care for.
