Orcollo wins an IPT Tour Card.

Dennis scratched on his 1st 2 breaks and Oliver jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Oliver had played superb pool in his morning match against Scott Frost and looked as if he would be very, very hard to beat. In the 8th game Dennis was hooked behind the 9 ball while trying to get position on the 8 ball. He calmly kicked the far away 8 ball into the corner pocket and the crowd went crazy. Oliver had a couple of uncharacteristic misses and Dennis picked up momentum and played fantastic pool from there on out. I was really glad Oliver that Oliver got his card as he had played top notch pool all weekend. It was a shame that only 2 IPT cards were available as the Canadian player gained a ton of respect with his play including a win over Scott Frost in the afternoon. This was an extremely tough field.

Didn't I call it? :D

I don't think anyone here in the states know exactly how good Orcollo is, since he's been trying to get a US visa for years. He's just extremely fortunate enough to get one right before this qualifier. I've read somewhere that he has dominated Pagulayan in money games in the PI? Can anyone from PI confirm this?

Also, congrats to Ortmann! His resume alone should qualify him to be part of the 150, and I'm glad his game was strong enough this weekend for him to qualify past this extremely tough field. Too bad they couldn't give out 5 or 6 cards in this qualifier, because at least 10 players are deserving (such as Frost, Wu, Kiamco).

Can't wait for the next qualifier!

We have several friends from the Philippines who call Orcollo 'The Bus Driver'. They said Efren won't play him either! Guess he won't be driving a bus much longer!

I find it a little hard to believe that Efren just flat out "wouldn't play" anyone. The railbirds love to say things like that though, so I'd take any of those statements with a grain of salt.

I'm assuming Orcollo doesn't play one pocket?

I doubt Efren ducks anyone. I am sure that there are plenty of backers who would love to put Efren in the box against Dennis and many less who want Orcullo's side of it.

Not saying it wouldn't be tough for Efren - but Efren still has a magical quality about his game that I haven't seen in the other Filipino players.

According to the rail at HTs Dennis and Efren played a few weeks ago and Dennis came out on top. I hardly think Efren is scared to play but I am sure that there is easier action out there.
I read where someone mentioned one-pocket. I was told that Dennis
is not a onepocket player per se but does know the game. It might be his worst. I dont see Dennis or almost anyone else being in Efrens One Pocket level.

You missed a good one Jimmy.

Manny P the Filipino boxing champion backed Dennis in a 20,000 match in the Philipines with Alex P and Dennis and Manny leftwith the $. This comes from a Fillipino friend who has many friends in the Philipines.

I watched Dennis for several days at HT practicing. His 9 Ball game is awesome. Watching him play rotation he didn't impress me near as much as Efren does. One Pocket is not his game--at least in this part of his career. His future could be unlimited though.

Yeah, I know. As it turns out I won a tournament here over the weekend so I can at least wallow in my sorrows with a little extra dough. :)

Orcollo has the number on Alex until recently when Alex even things
up on money games. I know if you read it here on one of the threads on not just long ago when Phoebe Choy Alex's wife posted on this subject.

On the other hand there is no doubt that he is the number one money player here right now, but it doesnt mean that Efren would back down on him. It just that this guys and other young Filipino pool players skyrocketed their skills specially on rotation (or 61 as we call it here).

Before i forgot, Congratulations to Dennis "Surigao" Orcollo!!!
Go Pinoy Go!

Here's the link by the way where Choy commented on this issue.
