Orlando Convention Center Hotels - HELP!

After spending 3 or more hours this morning on the Internet and utilizing the 800 numbers of the hotels within the vicinity of the Orlando Convention Center, I am hoping SOMEBODY on this forum who knows the area can provide a little insight.

The hotels IMMEDIATELY adjacent to the Orlando Convention Center are SOLD OUT for the dates November 29 through December 5. Just as well, though, since the price range is $175 through $300 per night. :D

I read the reviews on a couple others close by. The Days Inn Civic Center, about a half a mile, got an awful review, just horrible, all the way from "dirty rooms" to "poor service." :(

The Howard Johnson Plaza Suites does have room availability on the dates referenced above, $79 per night. It looks as if it is WALKING DISTANCE to the Orlando Conference Center, which is desirable. :)

The Sheraton Studio City Hotel and Clarion Hotel Universal are a short 5-minute drive to the Orlando Convention Center, ranging from $85 to $89 per night with the proper code.

There are at least 50-plus hotels within 5 to 10 minutes of the Orlando Conference Center.

I would sure love to hear from someone who knows the area and can provide some helpful info.

Also, this is nearby Universal Studios Orlando, a theme park, so you may want to look there and see what they have. Not sure if you guys are renting a car, but I would recommend it as things can be a bit spread out down here.

Now I understand your question a little better JAM...having read it again after a few sips of coffee.

I am asking a buddy of mine that used to live around there as well as he vacations there often with his family at nearby Universal Studios. We are only an hour away and so he goes quite often with the annual passes.

Will let you know his feedback ASAP.

Thanks, Shorty. I've spent too many hours researching and trying to gather any info related to REVIEWS and ROOM RATES. I've called 800 phone numbers and waited patiently for website pages to turn. What a waste of time! :mad:

The Howard Johnson is within walking distance, but if it's a dump, I don't want to stay there.

The IPT has provided a listing of TWO hotels in the area, Sheraton Studio City Hotel and Clarion Hotel Universal, but they are not within WALKING distance. They look very nice, though, and the room rate is reasonable, $85 to $89 with the pool tournament code.

I went to www.hotels.com and did a search using the orlando convention center as a landmark and it spit out a list sorting from closest location first. It also gives the star ratings and price rates. Hope this helps JAM.
 
And if anyone has any info on recommended RV parks nearby the convention center would be greatly appreciated!
 
You can call the Orlando/ Orange County Convention Center Information and they will be able to provide you with all of the information that you need regarding RV parks, hotels, etc. Remember that the closer you get to the attractions, the higher your hotel bill will be. There are many bargains available - you just have to find them. The OCCC web site also can direct you to hotels, but remember you may not get the best deals that way. I know that Travelodge (most of their Orlando locations) always have competitive room rates compared to other hotels in the area. Rates fluctuate from day to day so keep looking, you never know where you might find a bargain around here.

Hello I stayed at the HILTON GARDEN INN at SEA world last year nice and clean and close by the the conv. ctr., about 1 mile away...I dont have the phone #,sorry..

There is a trolley that runs up and down International Drive. You don't neccessarily have to concentrate on walking distance. One end of the convention center to the other is barely walking distance. I am going to ride over there and check out the area for SPetty. I will let you know what I find.

November through Janurary is prime time tourist season. Rooms will be getting scarce and the rates will be jacked up. They will never admit it to an out of towner but everything in Orlando is 40% to 50% higher during tourist season. The hotels around that area are large and their rates are going to be sky high. I'll try to find something reasonable and in a nice area.
 
Here's the skinny of 6-1/2 hours of searching!

I have endeavored to locate a "decent" hotel, but at a room rate which is within my budget. :p

The hotels closest to the Orlando Convention Center -- Rosen Centre Hotel, Rosen Plaza Hotel, Peabody Hotel -- are all SOLD OUT.

There were 281 hotels within the Orlando Convention Center vicinity rated by TripAdvisor.com: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g34515-Orlando_Florida-Hotels.html

If you look at the link which Shorty provided, it shows a map of the Orlando Conference Center with about 50-plus hotels listed.

There is a Howard Johnson Plaza Suites with EXCELLENT room rates within walking distance to the Orlando Convention Center, and they still have vacancies. However, when I went onto TripAdvisor.com and read the REVIEWS, it was rated 248 out of 281 on the ranking scale. I don't think this one is for me personally, but it is a good option for those who aren't as picky as I am about lodging facilities.

Spring Hill Suites by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott and Homewood Suites Hotel, each located within 1 mile of the Orlando Conference Center are SOLD OUT.

The Fairfield Inn by Marriott on Jamaican Court is not owned by Marriott anymore, under independent ownership, and it got a very bad review.

There is a Fairfield Inn located on 7495 Canada Avenue which is $99 per night plus 11.5 percent tax, and this one is owned by Marriott, located within 2 miles of the Orlando Conference Center. They still have vacancies.

The Sheraton Studio City Hotel [rated #46 on TripAdvisor.com] and Clarion Hotel Universal [rated #109 by TripAdvisor.com] each are located 5 miles from the Orlando Conference Center, and the rates are affordable, $85 to $89 with the mention of the correct IPT code. Each hotel still has vacancies.

The hotels fill up QUICKLY in this part of Orlando. For those traveling, you better book it NOW! JMHO, FWIW!

I was all set to make reservations at that Days Inn until I read some of the reviews. Wow. They are some of the worst reviews I've ever read on any hotel.

I opted for the Days Inn 3 miles up the road on International. Same price, slightly less disturbing reviews.

Just rent the place you want that's close and pay no attention to the reviews. They are just some disgruntled AH writing a negative review for no real reason, how bad do you think could be? Call, make a reservation, be sure to get the persons name you are speaking to, something you should do every time you talk to anyone. You will not find any really bad hotels in that area. It is just a couple rooms a bed and a shower, you aren't spending your vacation at the hotel you will be at the convention center and the tournament. You are over thinking this a little. The connivance of walking or at least a very short distance is probably the most important thing for you, to be able to go to the room and put your feet up between matches, not the pool wasn't heated or the maid came late. you don't want to be driving all over the place. Just my opinion, take a reality check as my wife always says when I am over thinking something. You are there to play pool not to vacation at the hotel it will be fine and you don't want to be spending $300. a night like you are on an expense account, keep it reasonable.

Also call the place directly if you are going through a reservation service and get yourself a contact person, manager, desk man or someone, get their name and be sure to see them when you arrive for their personal service. Be sure to mention to them you have read some negative things about the place and they will go out of their way to prove it wrong. I always make a point to get personal service where ever I go, I know them by first name and they know me. I don't really care if anyone else gets bad service as long as I don't and I never do.

I beg to differ Macguy, sorry...but if that's the area I am thinking of, lots of drug dealers and hookers on that end of town. I am also thinking that since JAM had her laptop stolen before, she is now leary of where she stays and it's quite understandable. Orlando has lots of GOOD hotels and bad ones. I think she should be careful and seems like she is. Her caution is understandable by me.

My friend has not got back in touch with me who goes over alot, but as soon as he does I will pass along what I find.

It is just you go to dinner with someone and you have a perfectly fine meal and they have something bad to say about everything. You can't go by a review. Some people are just like that.
