So I've played off an on for years but until recently I never tried to actually learn anything. My favorite game is banks and that's pretty much all I play for dough. So I've actually been playing and trying to really improve for about 4 months. So I play 5 and 10 dollar games here and there and I never win sometimes I'll walk out with a 20 here and there but that's it. Nothing big. So I'm playing this guy who I beat out of 60 bucks over three days playing banks and I get him again. Get him down 20 pump the bet lose it all back. So I wait around and we go again. Let's play full rack banks 5 bucks. I win. I say this is too much game for 5 bucks lets go twenty. He beats me. I'm think I take this guy to the cleaners all the time. Double or nothing 40 a game. Gets down to the last ball I never get a decent shot, only these things maybe bugs or eddie taylor would make (O and believe me I'm going to learn them.) He beats me again I'm stuck 60 so another game for 40, his final shot was a two rail cross side and boy did it ever break my heart to see that ball slow roll in. He wins again. All while telling me this has ceased being fun for him. We are friends and we play almost every time we see each other. I'm still a young guy and Dad just says I violated a cardinal rule of pumping the bet when I'm losing. So I lost 100 in one day and I know that IS nothing to alot of people here but It is to me as for a something I bet on a hobby. I had a long drive home and was upset, wanted to quit pool, or quit gambling or quit that room. Going home I got one hour of sleep (and had to get up a 5 am for duty) I literally had nightmares about those big cheese money balls he shot in over and over lol. and Ouch losing sure can suck. On the good side he did pay my 25 dollar tab.
Lesson learned. never pump the bet when I'm down, know that some folks 40 dollar stroke is a helluva lot better than their 10 dollar stroke, know when to go with my better judgement and walk away while the damage is small. Sometimes you just gotta walk away and take it I guess all the while remembering that tomorrow is another day to go practice.
