Our little game

A friend of mine and I for years have had a standing $1 bet.

If one person uses a quote from the Color of money or The Hustler and the other person doesn't catch... its simple pay the buck.

Now mind you we've had this bet for years so off and on he'll try me or I'll try and bust him.

One night a guy comes to the room wanting to play $20 a rack so my friend jumps on him. The owner and I are at a table not to close by but we can kinda watch from a distance.

After the first rack he comes over and asks for $20 says "I slipped" I think nothing of it and I'm not worried cause he plays very good.

next rack he comes over again asks for $20 I said without thinking "who you working here him or me"?

Now with $40 invested I watch a little closer and see him win the next game but still again he comes over and asks for another $20.

I said "whats the deal" you just won and your asking for another $20 he said yes I did win handed my $40 dollars back and said you owe me $2 one for each quote

To this day I don't know if his "action" was real or fake

I don't recognize any Hustler quotes from what you've said. "I slipped" was not in The Hustler but I don't know TCOM well enough. Nice game though, I'd love to play if I knew a worthy opponent.

The only excuses I recall Fast Eddie gave for losing were: "I got drunk" (against Minnesota Fats) and "I didn't think he knew how to hustle but he does" (against Findley).

Maybe he said "I'm gonna take him":
[Charlie: Quit, he's too good.
FE: Charlie, I'm gonna take him.]

Or any of these:
[FE: I got a feeling it's gonna be me from here on out. Did ya ever get the feeling like you just can't miss? Cause I been dreamin of this game, Fat Man. I been dreamin of this game every night on the road. This is my table, man, I own it.]

Or did he say, "I don't rattle"? Or "Well heeled, partner?" Or "You better give me that money, it's mine." Or "You just can't quit on me now".

Geez, you had to get me started, didn't you?

If none of these work, I guess they were TCOM quotes he was throwing at you.

"I slipped" and "who are you working here, me of him" are both from TCOM.

OP - Hell you probably owe him more than 2 bucks - he pretty much acted out the whole scene LOL

"This is Aimes Mr."
"Don't change the shirt Vincent"
"I just want your best game here, maybe it's the money that's throwing you off"
Lady....." I get off around __:__." Fast Eddie...." Not without me you dont"
