What are the differences in how outdoor tables are built, compared to indoor tables? What about the bumpers? Fabric? Life expectancy? Maintenance expense differences? Care?

Is there someone on this forum who can tell us the differences in indoor and outdoor tables....????

I have wanted an outdoor pool table for a long time, but would like to hear from someone who is knowledgeable on this subject.

I'll grant you I haven't played on one of the tables made for outdoors in years, but the ones I played on were horribl. Maybe they are better now. You would need to play on one yourself. They didn't play anything like any indoor table I've ever played on. Plus the price for them is high...about $3500 - $5500 new.

I don't know how big of a table you want, but I had a problem with a house with rooms too small for even a bar box. I really wanted a table so I bought a used Valley BB and put it on the screened patio. I figured if it lasted 2 years I'd just go buy another one. At first It was unplayable on humid days here in Tampa, FL. It played way too slow. I put new rails on and that helped some, but not much. Then I did some research on types of cloth on the Mechanics Forum on AZ and on my own. I liked what I heard about Velocity Pro cloth and had it put on as tight as he could get it. The first 2 weeks it was way too fast for a bar table. But it's relaxed a bit now and still plays fast in 100% humidity. Johnnyt

Outdoor Tables

I played on some tables outside in the Dominican Republic and they were HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! 7 ft. Valley's covered in sand, they were so slow you couldn't get the CB to go the length of the table 3 times I was shocked. A local bar has a couple Valley's outside here in Louisville they were a bit better but not much. I can't imaging what you could do to a pool table that would take away the factor of it being humid outside and the balls being sticky and covered in dirt.

They sure make them sound good at this site but I have no first hand knowledge.

If you're think of getting one to entertain the kids and their friends that's fine, but if you're a pool player and want one to practice on, forget it.
