Outside the Vacuum -- Marketing Pool

Database

One contact at a time with the help of every AZer and his or her hometown's newspaper.

What I mean Jason is not how you are collecting but how are you storing and using the information as a data base?

I suggest using an email system that is free, this would allow you practically endless room for contacts, etc and it would be stored in a cloud so to speak and if something happened to you maybe someone else might have access.

Robin,

If we create one page with all the contacts in the form I started with, the text can easily be parsed in to a database. Any deviation outside that format will be problematic. That is why it is important to follow the format exactly.

What would be better, is if a single web page was set up with fields (i.e. Name, Company, Address etc.) to force the proper structure.

As we have seen, it is difficult to control people and how they submit information. If you or anyone else has a better suggestion, please tell.

With the cooperation of the AZ community, we could get a database blanket, if you will, of the country in a very short time. Again, it takes the cooperation and effort of AZ for this to succeed. 5 minutes to find the information of your home town sport editor.

Ok,
The reasons for my questions is to understand where you are going with this and what you are going to do with it. I understand your need for format, now you say you are going to post to a page/website for use by other folks so they can submit. Ive got that/understood.

It sound like people will have this database at their finger tips so they may access it and submit stories to news media etc. Thats not a bad idea at all. I like it. This does give a lot of freedom for pool writers to emerge and I like that as well. It will provide news out there that hasnt been out there before if someone will use it.

I think the crowning pieces to this puzzle are player etiquette, proper dress and actions. If we can promote that which looks good to the public then I think you have something here. I remember when players showed up for matches well dressed in suits. If you remember that time the audience was pretty well laid out themselves. I think it will take all of us to develop taking a stance "of going the high road" in representing our sport to get our art recognition but this is something that could lend to that.

I see this as part of the direction you are going and I think its a great thing. Im not sure about some of the articles that might get submitted but thats what freedom is all about now isnt it?

Kudos and Greenies for you.

I'm not suggesting we go crazy and bombard them with overwhelming information, stories, etc. That might be counter productive. I'm suggesting they have access to current box scores of recent, high profile tournaments and a top players list. If they don't have the information, they can't publish it.

I personally am not planning on doing anything with this information. All I am doing is trying to provide a database for AZ, Cue Sports International or anyone else in the industry who might be able to use this in a positive way for the sport.

Houston Chronicle

Dallas morning news

This is an awesome idea.

Also, tournament promoters if you live in a city like Houston you can run adds for free in local event papers. Never understood why this wasn't done for the Galveston World Classic or Houston Open.

Time to reach out if we want the game to survive.
