hello......i understand he makes some nice lloking cues but i must say i feel like hes a ass.......i called him once and inquired about having a cue made and was told point blank,my money was no good he sold his cues overseas and had no time to deal with anyone here in the states....i just feel like he was very nasty to me in the way he just cut me off and left it at that......it really dissappoints me that he only acted like he was concerned with the money.....i could have had 10 grand to spend and he never gave me a chance.......now that i have some money froma lawsuit i will not be taking it to him to get a cue.......just how i feel, juston

Well Juston, I think you are smoking crack. I know you are not talking about Paul Fanelli because he doesn't turn away orders, ever. Since I know where 90% of his cues go, I know his overseas business is not where he is making his money. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer guy than Fanelli.

Joe

Juston,

I think you got the wrong guy. We're talking about Paul Fanelli who is located in New Jersey. To my knowledge, Fanelli makes cues in short time period of 6 months and most are state side orders. I think you might have confused Fanelli with Dave Barrenbrugge who makes butterfly cues as well. Barrenbrugge's authorized dealer is located in Japan (Lucky, I think) and the majority of his cues go to Asia. Best double check you got the right person there Juston.

Fanelli even asked me once what Barrenbrugge was getting for his cues in Asia and this was back in the beginning of this year (Feb. 05) so I know for a fact that he's not doing a lot of international orders. I'm just hoping this is a mix up or misunderstanding. I talk to Paul on a weekly basis, nicest and most accomodating guy/cuemaker I've ever met and chat with. I just can't picture him turning you away and being so nasty about it.

hey guys im not trying to bad mouth the guy i was just stating what happened to me.......these are the only cues i have ever seen done in this fashion......i have alot of problems but my memory is pretty good....and i promise i have alot of drugs that i must take for cancer so crack is not one of my drugs by choice or anything else and i promise i hate taking drugs just cause i have had to take something or other damn near everyday for the last 5 years....i apologize if i have offended anyone and i was just stating what happened to me.......i just found it odd that he brushed me off and yet i have only heard good things about him from you guys on here....again i was NOT trying to dog him out was just staing what happened to me.......maybe i caught him on a bad day...it happens.....and before anyone can say it i simply called him and asked what his basic butterfly cue sold for and what was the wait time and what it would take to order one......i never got rude or just tried to waste his time in any fashion......again i apologize if i upset anyone........take care, juston

I just ordered my cue from Paul a month ago and he has been nothing but great! I asked him the very questions you did and he was very helpful and when I spoke with him on the phone he was great helping me finalize the ideas I had for cues from him. If this indeed happened, perhaps you got him on a bad day as we all have those types of days.

cuewhiz, you must have paul confused with someone else. let's hope that paul's wife doesn't hear that story.

you must be confused. i live in nj and paul is in clifton only an hour or so from my house. he is a nice guy and he takes pride in all of his work. does great leather wraps too. he does my retipping.

Juston, are you sure you are not referring to Barrenbrugge?
I know he sells most of his stuff to Lucky in Japan and he does great butterfly cues.

im 99% positive....as i would remember seeing other cues of this style........i swear this was the guy i talked to.....but like i said...sorry if i made anyone mad....and with all this positive feedback about him i may call him back and try again.....thanks all, juston

hey murray.....the only other cues i have seen similiar to the fanellis was a guy selling some butterfly forearms....his name was bill webb i believe......thanks for the info....im gonna give him a shout......thanks all, juston

fanelli

This is in response to cuewhiz...

In this USA we do not have enough buyers to purchase the amount of wood(cues) being produced by every up and coming cuemaker.. How many cuemakers can our market support??..In turn they are forced to sell their cues to Japan or we know who "Lucky".. He will promote them and buy their cues that noone else will.. What happens is "Lucky" bails them out and we get mad when a cuemaker doesnt want to sell to us.. All of a sudden we want his product because now its only available in Japan.. WEll we didnt want his stuff before Lucky..

Lucky is capitilizing on our talent.. Why.. Japan doesnt have the cuemakers but has the buyers.. Our problem... WE have the cuemakers but not the buyers.. Thats capitalism at its best..
Only one way to alleviate this problem.. More cuemakers should have stayed machinists..
Juston.. Maybe thats what happened to you with Paul.. Its happening alot these days..Look at Tim Scruggs.. One of the greatest cuemakers ever.. He had a hard time selling his cues 4 years ago.. Resale market was bad on a scruggs.. AS soon as Lucky started buying his cues what happens.. USA demand goes up.. Prices go up. Wait time goes up and second hand value goes up.. Many cue makers are doing this.

Some call this "selling out" , I call this smart business for the cuemakers.. Why should they worry about the guys over here who never bought their cues before Lucky..

i can appreciate what you have said.....i have been doing cue repair on and off for sveral years and when i saw pauls work i could really appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship that goes i this style of cuemaking.....the same can be said about samsara.....i feel what has hurt the cue industry in the us is a multiple headed monster.....first off ebay has hurt the resale of cues in the fact people judge the values of cues by what the go for or can be bought for off of ebay....also you have guys like dale perry that are destroying there own market by selling there cues on ebay, why would someone want to be a dealer and invest several thousand with him..also he has gotten away from quality and now chases the dollar with quantity.......next the publication of the blue book, people use that as a fixed priced reference guide for the price of cues......instead they should take it and use it as it was intended as a reference guide.......it does not reflect truly the prices and values of cues.....people also wanna say a cue is 98% when they rellhave no idea as to what constitutes a cue in 98% condition.....this can be something as small as a tip missing or needing to be replaced......then i must say and im not being racist when i say this......the foreign market has really affected the values of cues by the fact they are willing to pay full retail for a cue and then they use that as there wholesale.....this i learned from a very good cuemaker......he told me that it makes it hard to sell cues here for full retail because people arent willing to pay it and yet the foreign market is willing to pay our retal and then this in turn raises the prices in the fact that the cues being sold are actually worth more money there than they are here ......i have no problem with who is buying or even who is selling......i just wish cuemakers wouldnt forget about the people that got them the exposure here so that there product trickled out to other markets......i tend to think alot of it is greed on some faces.......money will make people do crazy things........im very glad to hear that paul fanelli is not cutting off the american market as i feel he does some beautiful work.......there are alot of guys that will tell you ......i dont care if i sell any cues here cause i can get more moey from overseas, lest they forget if it wasnt for people like us no one would have heard of some of these guys.........juston

Paul Fanelli is a super guy.. IMHO

I just got off of the phone with Paul last night. He could not be a nicer man to talk to. I cannot imagine Paul talking to anyone that way. I have not spoken to the same Paul
Paul is a super guy, each time I have talked to him, he has been super. I would guess that Paul is taking care of his customers, he has a great reputation and makes a super fine looking cue...
Just giving my side of Paul as well. To each his own. By the way Jusitin, Billy Webb does make butterfly cues, not as elaborate as Pauls cues but they are pretty nice and called the Spyder Webb cue.

First..thanks to all for the support...and to Juston, thanks a bunch..like Larry said, my wife saw your first post and I now find myself on "Double Secret Probation" over my curt phone manner. My memory is no longer reliable, but I do recall that I talked to Juston on the phone, but nothing more. I may be accused of being short on conversation via telephone at times, but I couldn't have told anyone that my business is overseas and I'm not interested in making cues for US consumption. So, I'll take the weight for being short with Juston on the phone, I sometimes have a bad day myself. But the other stuff..must be someone else...you're only 99% positive, so theres room for doubt. Juston, call again and I promise not to abuse you unduly, my wife is now monitoring all my calls and poking me in the ribs, and sometimes lower, when she thinks I am being rude to a person that wants to give me (her) money.

There are many others that are doing or have done butterfly splice style cues; Don G. of DG Cues, Dave Barrenbruge thru Lucky, Bill Webb, Black, Mottey, and a lot more. But before them all was the inventor of the butterfly splice...Al Gore.

thanks again

paul

Paul, your always a gentleman in my book, that is why you'll always have my business. Very gracious of you to take some of the blame. Juston, I hope things work out for you, I believe Fanelli to be one heck of cue maker, but an even nicer guy.
