Look at it this way HH7.
Lets say that you have a harder ferrule material on your shaft. Linen Melamine, Aegis. Med Hard. Or a harder material as any of the Ivorines.
Without going to the dungeon and measuring, I will say that the average thickness of a tip pas is approx 1/32 and probably thinner. 1/64th perhaps.
All yer doing is putting a sliver of hard material on top of an already hard material.
With a Soft and or a Med tip, do you believe that you would be able to tell a difference in hit.
Take fer instance, a softer ferrule material, like Juma or Titan. Now you have a tiny sliver of hard over top of soft. Add your choice of tip.
Even if you could tell a slight difference in this instance, would it affect your game that much as to be detrimental. I don't believe so.
There are lots of little experiments that a person can do with their shafts, depending on how they play in the first place.
Different ferrule materials
Length of ferrule. I know that this is not an option when your tenon is already one inch, unless you want to make a shaft shorter.
Capped or uncapped ferrule
The brand and hardness rating of a tip
But, I cannot see a sliver of hard material making a huge difference in the over all feel or play in any particular shaft.
The Blue and Red pads do make the tip look prettier.
As I mentioned to you before. If I am replacing a phenolic with a leather, I will face off and leave a sliver of phenolic on the ferrule.
If I am doing an OB shaft, I always use Royce's carbon.
Any other break shaft gets a fiber pad.
Beyond that or an Ivory ferrule, I wouldn't let it bother you that much.
