Pagulayan Chalk Allergy??

Around 2 months ago I switched to the Pagulayan green chalk. Soon after switching, I started getting really bad skin irritation and welts on my hands like a bad allergic reaction. It took me awhile to narrow it down to the chalk causing it because quite frankly, it never registered to me that could've been the cause. I switched other stuff in my life and still was having these issues. Once I realized the chalk could've been what's causing it, I started thinking back to whenever I would break out. It was always while playing for a decent amount of time or soon after. The reaction would also spread to my face occasionally, I'm assuming from touching my face while having some of the chalk residue on my hands.

I recently switched to using Blue Diamond and now, nothing at all. No kind of flare up or anything.

I've been told that Taom makes the Pagulayan Chalk. I used to use V10 when it very first came out and never had this issue. Could there be something different/new in the formula? Does Taom not even make Pagulayan chalk? I'm just trying to find some answers because I really like using cleaner chalk but it's not worth the allergic reactions for sure.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Any help or insight would be much appreciated!
 
I use both V10 and Pagulayan green. No allergy and/or any other issues.

In addition, no contact or respiatory reactions to any chalk for that matter.

I suggest reaching out to Taom and letting them know. They are very responsive and it will be helpful for them to keep tabs on people who might have reactions to their products.
 
From what i know Alex's Chalk is the same as V10, But could they do something to it that you are allergic to possibly. You could be allergic to the glue they use to wrap the chalk in paper.

Skin dermititus like that, really doesn't have a cure. The doctors just say stay away from it. My wife was a chef and is allergic to touching carrots and celery. Eating them she has no issues. Freaking halrious a chef that cant touch food that is in most recepies.

I’m not even trying to bash the brand, I really like the chalk. I’m just having an allergic reaction to it and I’m simply trying to see if anyone else has experienced this problem.

I mentioned the brand I switched back to in case someone had a lot of knowledge of the formula for the 2 chalks to possibly narrow down what’s in it that’s causing my issue for future reference.

I used to use Master's chalk and had a similar kind of allergic reaction you had to Pagulayan's chalk. What I did was wash my hands before playing and immediately afterwards and no more problem.

Got tired of that and changed to Blue Diamond chalk and no problem. Then Magic chalk and no problem. Taom and no problem. Currently use Pagulayan's chalk and no problem.

Seems like if you have no problem with the Taom chalk but do with Pagulayan chalk and they are both made by Taom, you could contact the factory and ask them if they would please let you know if they could shed some light on what may be the cause. But, I doubt it due to trade secrets.
 
If the Taom and AP chalks are effectively the same like others are saying could be the wrapper or something on it.
Try a towel with a bit of iso on the wrapper and see if you still have the issue.

I think an allergist can only tell him what he already knows unless the allergist starts a series of tests and/or does a chemical analysis of the chalk.

If the OP is interested enough to do a test for the wrapper/adhesive as a cause: Wearing a mask and gloves, carefully remove the wrapper and a thin layer of chalk under the wrapper to get rid of any traces of adhesive. Replace the wrapper with electrical tape. Watch for symptoms.

an allergist can do a patch test of the chalk and wrapper and patch tests of various chemicals to see what else he is allergic to and what to avoid
it cant make him worse
i dont see how going to a doctor thats a specialist in his problem can be a bad thing

Between the shape, the glue/wrapper you have your 5%. On a side note it's nice to see v10 blue starting to hit the market.
 
a guy went to a doctor and told him it hurts every time he pokes his eye. doc what can you do for me?

doc said, don't poke your eye.

to op,,, don't use that chalk.
