Paper Veneers?

Those papers from Atlas are .031" thick (thinnest ones). The veneers in the cue are .036" thick. If I had used that paper from Atlas, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two.

The glue also wasn't died black. If it was, I doubt the lines would appear straight as the glue would seep into the grain of the veneers and make a mess.

Sorry if You feel I was suggesting that dye was used, but that wasn't the case, I was just curious if a similar look could be obtained. The bleeding I would expect to take place, and why I mentioned sealing the veneer before hand to prevent that. It's not a method I would use, but was just curious If it could be done, and what the outcome would be or how thin the lines would be.:)

I use the .031" often for veneers. They also have Ivory Micarta.
I use them when I can "cause they cut cleaner and have crisper edges
than wood veneers.
Is this the "Paper" veneer you heard about??

That's the stuff I remember them selling, but i never got any.

I actually have a square of the thin ivory micarta I got years back. I have a thicker square of it also that I was going to use for inlays, but didn't really care to use it for that when I first tried It out, and haven't bothered to try again since then.

OK, I'm reviving an old thread here.

I recently saw a few cues here on AZ with black "paper" veneers between traditional colored veneers and thought they looked nice. While researching "paper veneers" here, I came across this thread.

It looks like the earlier suggestion of the Atlas-available .031 "sheets" isn't the super-thin stuff I've seen used on some cues. Can anyone recommend a source for true "paper" veneers?

Someone above actually mentions construction paper. I realize it's much softer than a true wood veneer, but by the time you glue and press it between regular veneers, would it work?

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be appreciated!

Black paper veneers that are commonly referred to are just that.....black paper veneers.
Generally construction type paper is used....in the .010 range thick.

I've seen cue parts that are around 20 yrs old with them...nothing new...just revived ideas.

I agree with Dave here. People have told me they go to Michael's and buy colored thick craft paper and use them for thin veneers.

paper thin

How thick were the veneers?

This is the UNFINISHED butt ---- the shorter reverse points have the white paper veneers.

You can go to the art store and buy construction paper is what they are talking about. gilbert and curbin and some others use this. it does work I have seen it work. I have never tried it yet but I am going too! Construction paper is made in many diferrent colors so pick what you want and go to town.

There are better options than construction paper. Construction paper is very weak. Try it. If you glue up veneers with Construction Paper, you can just pull them apart, basically splitting the construction paper in half.

I would say the softness (The fibers in the paper pull apart very easily). Construction paper is also very thin. Only about .003-.004" thick.
